It is probably a little.  You could send your invitations a little earlier than normal just to give your guests a sonner heads up so they can put in on the calendar and plan accordingly.  Might as well save some money with no STDs.

Maybe put the money from the STDs into cute custom thank you notes instead? Use that same sort of design, too? Just an idea.

How formal is the wedding and how traditional are you and your guests? How would you feel about sending out the lovely image you made as an e-mail STD and follow with the invite 6-8 weeks before the wedding?

@codysgirl16:  it is too late.

Invites should still go out 6-8 weeks ahead though.  but start telling everyone invited so they can plan.

I would save the money and postage and use them for your invites instead. Congratulations!

I only have a 6 month engagement so I am doing both. I sent out STD’s April 1st, and will be sending out my invites 6 weeks before our wedding.

I think you could, if you sent them out today or in the next 2 days.  Once you get towards July it’s pretty pointless.  I’d just save the money though.

@codysgirl16:  I think e-mail ones totally depend on your area and the style of your wedding. Some people would say it is an etiquette no, but I see them occasionally here in Canada and nobody seems to mind them up here!

the reason to consider them is timing of course – printing and addressing and mailing them means your guests likely will not see them for another week or so. E-mail is intstant. Some of my STDs took 2 weeks plus to arrive just because the mail system isn’t always 100% reliable.

Our wedding is Oct. 26, and we just sent out save-the-dates two days ago. I don’t think it’s necessarily too late if you don’t care about certain “rules.” With that being said, we didn’t spend any money on ours. My fiance made a really nice video slideshow-type project and e-mailed it out. If you want to save some money, I say skip the save-the-dates, but if you really want to send them out, I don’t see anything wrong with doing it now.

@codysgirl16:  I think they are in general a huge waste of money, they create a lot of issues (how many I sent an STD, but don’t want to invite them, is this case an exception to the rule, posts are there?), and are not necessary, despite what the wedding industry tells you.

Since your date is so close this is even more reason to skip them.  Tell your guests about the wedding for sure, but save yourself the time, the money, and the hassle.
