We are getting married 4/9/11, and I still haven’t sent out save the dates 🙁
I’ve been overwhelmed with job hunting and finishing my masters (thesis defense tomorrow!), and it just kept getting pushed to the back burner. Ours is a semi-destination wedding–most guests are from out of town, but it’s not to a touristy place (unless you really like Indiana, I guess), so hotels are easy to get and in a variety of price points. I had been planning on sending out our invites by Feb. 1, so I’m wondering if it’s too late to do save the dates now. Should I just send the invitations earlier?

either send them out this week or wait until your invites in february. i wouldn’t send the invites any earlier though.

I would skip it. STD are suppose to go out between 8-12 months before. I think you will be fine with the standard 6-8 weeks for the normal invites.

I think it is a bit late for those now, just wait and send out the invites. I’m guessing that the people who are travelling to the wedding already have all the information by now anyway right?

@bells: That is part of the problem, a lot of them don’t 🙁 I had assumed that my FMIL had told their side of the family the info, but ever since my shower invites went out my sister has been getting a ton of calls/emails saying people don’t even know when the wedding is! (Of course, some of those are also from some of my aunts, who I know I have told multiple times). Gah, I wish I had been more on top of this!

@Leprechaun: I’m getting married the same day as you…and mine are going out Friday…so I don’t think it’s too late!! (My engagement pics were 6 weeks late getting to us so it put us behind!)
I’ve been told 4-6 months anyways. So yes, a little behind, but I did a combined Save the Date and Christmas Card. “Tis the Season…for Love and Joy” is my wording. The other option was “Merry Christmas from the future Mr & Mrs.”
If you do send them out – you’re not the only one! 🙂

Do you have them designed/ ordered? If not I don’t think you should worry about it. If you already have them, go ahead and send them out. I just got one for a May 1st wedding. Anything that helps me plan my life is good, I think!

It’s totally not too late! I just sent mine out, and I’m only getting married a month after you!
So what if it’s not 6 months before hand or whatever, I’m sure your guests will appreaciate any advanced notice. I know I would!
I say go for it! And, it’ll start getting your guests excited too. They feel really special when they get one in the mail, or at least that’s what I’ve been hearing four our guests all week.
