@DD79: We looked at the Mark West Lodge and liked the indoor area but we weren't very thrilled with the outside area, especially the fact that all that separates that area from the busy road is a wood fence, so you'd hear the cars going by during the ceremony. That being said, we know at least one couple who got married there and loved it. Alli, the planner there, is amazing and I wanted to book the venue based on her alone!
Flying Cloud was another one we were going to look at but we found our venue before we even made it there. We got married at the Garden Pavilion. Check out the thread we've had going for the past year, there's tons of pictures and info about it...we could not have been happier with it and we got tons of compliments on the venue itself. Plus, it's a fraction of the cost of a winery and you get use of if for 3 days! Check it out: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/the-garden-pavilion-in-sonomaanyone
@Jaynee: Thanks SOOO much for the Info! I know that things like the car noise would bother me when I get there but you can't know until you are there in person! I will check out the link. Thank you so much for the suggestion.
I viewed the Cornerstone Gardens! It is a cool site, very different. Guests can roam the gardens and there are eclectic sculptures and art throughout the grounds. The ceremony site is beautiful, with a long manicured grass area and a pond/pool down one side. They recommended dinner under a large tree area, which as very pretty, then moving the party/dancing to a semi-enclosed barn-like structure. Another bonus is that you can bring in your own alcohol, which helps save a little money.
My fiancé took some pics; I will try to upload them sometime this weekend. One word of caution, that particular area of Sonoma can get pretty windy in the late afternoon. And I would check the race schedule for Inferion Raceway, you would not want a wedding the same weekend as the races!
We also looked at V. Sattui, loved the site and the wedding director! V. Sattui is in Napa, just a short distance from Sonoma. It was definitely a runner-up for our wedding venue.
I saw Flying Cloud. It's gorgeous and the woman in charge is fantastic - and she will be your day of coordinator. The ceremony and reception space are the same outdoor lawn space but there's an indoor dance floor/buffet room and an adjacent indoor bar/cocktails area that's gorgeous, and would be where the guests go while they change the setup from ceremony to reception. Their price is very reasonable too.
Wow I can tell this is going to be a tough choice!!!! Thanks for the info. I can't wait to get there and see all these things for myself!!!
Well I went and visited Flying cloud, Cornerstone Gardens, and Vine Hill House. All were beautiful, Flying clouds is MORE than reasonalbly priced and beautiful but I fell in LOVE with Vine Hill House. It is Gorgeous and I am super exctied to get married there!!!! So that being said next September I will! Thanks for the help. I definetly was well prepared for my short trip to check things out! Now for caterers!
Congrats please keep us posted with pics of your big day!
