cowpoke06:  I think that personalizing your wedding will always look good!

We are doing a Storybook Circus theme but FI has bought Star Wars pins for the guys bouts, he and the groomsmen will be walking out during the ceremony to Star Wars music, he’s also suggested using favorite TV show music to intro the bridal party.

I think as long as you have a centeralized theme it will totally work to have hints of other things.

p.s. I love your first kiss story adn your cake topper idea so sweet!

cowpoke06: if it sums up you guys as a couple then do it!!! it wont look dumb – it is the special touches like this that keep weddings from all being the same 🙂

we had an underlaying ‘tv/movie’ theme for our day – i walked into ice dance from edward scissorhands (i’m a major tim burton nerd), had superhero cufflinks for the boys, our tables were names after movie pubs/bars, we had fry and leela on our cake and all of our ceremony and drinks reception music was from movies (played on the harp).

think it would look too themed if you stuck to one thing eg, JUST little mermaid – but with a mix of all the elements you said above i think its gonna look awesome!!!! x

We’re having random touches too, like Lego favor boxes and a CARDIS (Dr. Who card holder). It will be cohesive because it’s all “us”, and because we’re sticking to a unified, elegant color scheme.

I think if the elements are subtle nods… good. If the day seems more like comicon than a wedding…not so good. Ultimately its your day but I personally think when there’s a lot of gimmicky, humorous stuff it overshadows the actual theme of the wedding: wedding.

To me when I hear little mermaid, Pokemon, wrestling, world of Warcraft wedding it sounds like a fraternal twins’ birthday party on acid. But if you do it all subtly I’m sure it won’t be like that. Unless you want it to, then go right ahead haterz be damned.

cowpoke06:  I say go for whatever you like! My FI and I settled on a “whimsical tea party under the stars” theme… But then we slowly started adding in other elements that we liked. For example, we are both obsessed with Wes Anderson and Tim Burton. We had a Tim Burton-esque portrait commissioned of us, which is going to act as our guest book and STD. I worried for a while that it wouldn’t “go” but then I quickly stopped caring. In the “real world”, off the Bee, I’m not sure people give much thought to themes and things like that. If you had a bunch of fun elements, I’m sure it’ll look fine. Plus, I advocate doing whatever you like for your wedding!

MrsBuesleBee:  Omg, I’m replying because of this: “To me when I hear little mermaid, Pokemon, wrestling, world of Warcraft wedding it sounds like a fraternal twins’ birthday party on acid.”

I have to admit that when I first thought of all these themes together, that’s a bit what I envisioned as well. However, I also REALLY like the idea of personalizing your big day and some of the weddings I think are the most special are the ones that are unique and out of the ordinary. If those things make you guys happy, then go for it. 🙂 My one piece of advice would just be to try to keep those elements subtle and maybe even under the radar. Like… pokeball cufflinks or something small, just so your guests aren’t totally overwhelmed!

cowpoke06:  First of all, its your wedding do whatever you want!!! BUT if you want to make it cohesive then make them subtle like other people have posted. Colors, music, the topper are all subtle elements. The one bold decision is the colors but super colorful weddings can be fun! My friend had the same idea over the summer and her wedding looked great with those colors. ALSO FI is begging me to have wrestling enterances as well! haha we’ve gone to some live shows too!

Do what makes you happy!

Most of our wedding is around a harvest/farm type theme as FI grew up on a farm and it suits the time of year. But then we have all sorts of silly touches!

We have cycling as our wedding stationary, a lego cake topper (to go on top of our cake made of cheese!) and my mum is making us a wedding cake which in parts looks like the icing is peeled back to reveal lego bricks!

Do what makes you happy, and what represents you guys as a couple. Matchy matchy works for some people, but not everyone! Hope you have a great day of it (and hope that proposal is soon!) 😀

Way too much going on…. And not cohesive stuff, either. Smack down and little mermaid And Pokemon… Too much.  Tone it down and try to make your mind up on one central theme.
