Bees with office jobs (I guess in non executive positions), do you find yourself sitting around a lot with nothing to do? In every office job I’ve held, usually as a data analyst, I get done with my assignment and just have to bum around until I get another. Nagging my boss for something more to do usually doesn’t result in anything either.
Am I the only one in this position or is it common among office jobs?

All. The. Time.

Nope- I work as a legal assistant at a law firm & it’s painful here! I work 8:30-5 M-F & it literally feels like most days I do maybe 2-4 hours of actual work. The rest is me surfing the net, trying to find something to do (shred, cleanup storage closet, etc.). In college I couldn’t wait to get out of waitressing & into a desk job, 5 years later the last thing I want is a desk job & sadly I’ve actually considered waitressing just because it’s soo much more involved. It’s just soo boring here & I had no idea how tiring boring would be! I don’t do anything all day but get home pooped =(

I spent 90% of my day on The Bee. 8% watching JennaMarbles videos on YouTube. 2% is probably actual work.

I have a “desk” job but also get out of office fieldwork, too. I have days where I am so busy I want to scream, but I also have days (like today) where I’ve met deadlines or are waiting on someone to send me something, therefore I also hang out on the bee on my side monitor.

haha I spend a LOT of time doing nothing … and I LOVE IT!!! I get a lot of work done quickly and then I can just do whatever I want for the rest of my day. I tool around the web, reading and learning stuff, chatting on forums, writing my blog, etc. It’s like I get hours of solid me-time every single day. Sometimes I get excited for Mondays because I get to go back to my office and chill out after a busy weekend 🙂 haha I’m a freak!

All the time! Our work flow ebbs and flows so some times of the year are quite busy and others are virtually dead. I don’t think I did any work for weeks around Christmas.

I work in a lab, and don’t quite have enough to keep me fully occupied. There’s also a lot of incubate x and y for an hour, run the centrifuge for 30 minutes kind of stuff where you just twiddle your thumbs, hence the bee 🙂

Glad to know I am not the only one, but it drives me crazy. I don’t want it to seem like I am wasting company resources watching youtube videos or being on the bee but there’s nothing to do!!
Wouldn’t it be great if we could be paid the same but have to only be in for the hours that we’re still doing work?

Thank goodness I’m not alone either! I always feel guilty for how much time I spend at work planning my wedding/surfing the net/doing anything other than working.

My first job out of college was as an assistant at the same place that I still work for now and honestly I probably spent 1 hour a day actually working. Yes, 1 hour. The crap was so simple and it disgusted me that I had gone to college to do work I could have literally done in middle school. All of the assistants felt this way and everyone spent all day playing Farmville and MafiaWars. Grown adults were asking me if I had harvested my crops or expanded my farm. It was so dull and awful and at the time I hadn’t discovered The Bee (and wasn’t nearly engaged anyway).

Yep! I work from home though thankfully, so after I get my work done I can get paid to clean my house and do laundry. 🙂

Yup. Doing that right now. I’ve always been the kind of person who focuses to get everything done right away and then I end up bored. But at least everything is completed!

@CrazyCatLady13: It really just depends on the day. Yesterday I was crazy busy all day, whereas today I haven’t had much going on, but that can change at any minute.
I prefer a good mixture of work and downtime, with work being a little more. I like being able to take breaks and chat on a few forums or play on Pinterest.
