It has been a month since our wedding, and we are finally starting to unpack all of our gifts. We are very excited that we received many things from our registry, but it is really overwhelming trying to find a place for all of it- especially the "entertaining" stuff- we have never had so many sets of glasses, flatware, dishes etc.

I am also having major anxiety of giving up my old dishes and other household items that I have become attached to over the years. :(

We are going to have a huge garage sale soon for all of the usable things that we don't need after receiving so many gifts!

Are you overwhelmed with your new household items?

I should add- I LOVE our new flatware! We both have used a mismatch of forks, spoons & knives since college, and I can't get over how nice it is to have nice, matching flatware lol. I think it is the gift I love the most!

I'm thinking I might be. My fiance and I have decided to donate our old stuff to families in our church that could use the extra stuff right now. Our things are nice - they are just being replaced with new things!

Most of our things are still in boxes in a corner of the apartment.  We had planned on moving, then changed our minds.  Now I have  it in my head that a huge cleanup/purging needs to be done before anything else can be put in our apartment.

I will admit that I had a bit of a freak-out with all the STUFF we had in our apartment after the wedding.  I just felt like we had too much stuff and not enough room!  We ended up donating a lot of stuff (towels, linens, dishes, pots/pans, etc) to make room for the new items.

Now I feel like we need to have a party to use all our new stuff!  Maybe a wine and cheese night, so I can break out our new fondue pot?

we def. had to buy new furniture to acccomodate our new stuff... pot racks, a buffet for our glassware and china, etc. But I'm happy to say, other than our fine china and silverware, that we use all our registry stuff fairly frequently, so we're happy to have it!

What I HATED was all the packaging, and recycling/throwing that stuff out. IT WAS SOOOO WASTEFULLLL UGHHHH

Penguin - the packaging is unreal! I remember one store sent us 6 coasters in this HUGE box with all this bubble wrapping and it was SO MUCH TRASH.

Our apartment is pretty much overflowing with registry stuff, but we are moving to a bigger place soon so I am trying to just get over it until then.

If you're overwhelmed with boxes and packaging, try posting it on Freecycle or Craigslist. I couldn't bear to trash all the packaging that protected my dishes, and I found someone willing to come pick it up and use it for moving on Freecycle!

I'm still in the process of boxing up and giving away all the old stuff we've replaced.

We are literally living on top of boxes in our current apartment!  Luckily, we are moving soon!  I'm glad we waited until after the wedding to find a new place...we've been inspired to look for something bigger than we initially planned so that there will be plenty of space...space for our new things and the space for the parties we will throw to use our new things!  I love all of our gifts, but I sure am tired of tripping over them!

Mrs. Penguin and ES123, I also hated all that packaging!  It seemed so wasteful to have all those boxes and packing peanuts and such.  Lucky for us, we had friends who moved right after our wedding, so we donated the boxes to them for their move.

OMG.  That packaging was HORRIBLE!!!  It took us weeks to get rid of it all!!

We ended up returning a number of things (yay for gift receipts!) or trading in a few of the lesser-desired items for something really cool (i.e. a Le Cruset Dutch Oven.. woohoo!).  But yeah... unwrapping, sorting, deciding what to keep and what to return or bring to the local church donation "clutter barn", was surprisingly a process.

I don't think we'll be too overwhelmed -- mostly because we don't/won't have much! =)

Our house is sooo small.  We know we're going to be buying a new house soon, so we unwrapped all our gifts and put them in storage.  When we move, they'll go to the new house and the old stuff will go in a yard sale.  There just isn't enough room in the house for the stuff we already have, let alone all that new stuff!
