My FI and I also love GoT….it’s one of the first things we shared as a couple, watching the show together. When I jokingly mentioned to a friend about tying in something GoT related, he said (also jokingly) “With GoT’s track record for wedding mishaps, are you sure you want to include it?”.

{just wanted to share, thought it was amusing}

That being said, I don’t think it’s too nerdy if it’s right for you and your FI. Just keep in mind that not everyone will make the connection. Not that it matters, really – you’re making vows to one another, not your guests 🙂 Talk to your FI, maybe work it in along with more traditional vows if you’re really concerned.

My whole ceremony (including our written vows to each other) are full of nerdy references. We are adapting part of the show Firefly into our vows. We are getting married by the power of Shazam.

If you like it. Nothing. Is. Too. Nerdy! lol.

I’m a big fan of doing what you want to make you and your FI happy on your day – regardless of what anyone else thinks. Will some people think it’s nerdy? Probably. But so what? It’s your wedding and it’s about you and your FI!

Don’t let your mom poo poo your idea

Shay.Clover:  NO I love that!!! You should also have them written up in a fancy scrowll and framed after the wedding. as a matter of fact your entrance song should be the GOT theme song.

Shay.Clover:  just do it! My FI and I are planning to do something similar. While we are both A Song of Ice and Fire (ie the books) more than Game of Thrones (tv show) fans we want to incorporate the line from Rob Stark’s wedding: “I am yours, and you are mine. From this day, until the end of my days”.

I really like the idea of incorporating the Night’s Watch vow into your vows!!

I agree that it’s not too nerdy. However, GoT is a current show. What happens in 5, 10, 30 years from now when it (the show) is barely a memory? as long as you are happy with the vows themselves, that’s what really matters.

And just wondering, have you read the books? they are very good!!

Shay.Clover:  hmm, just re-read the actual vows as I couldn’t remember the wording… It seems quite grim? I’d love to know how you plan to rewrite them to make them appropriate!

Shay.Clover:  GOT fans will love it. The others won’t recognize them so they will have little effect.

Lol!!! I love it. I do think you should maybe only do a few lines or some references throughout the ceremony. We are doing that with Big Bang Theory anecdotes that we love (it’s how he proposed as well).

We love GOT too! FI is always randomly saying “the wedding is coming”! Lol

I think it would be cool if you wrote them in a way that, to those who got the references, awesome, but for those who don’t, nothing is lost. I hope that makes sense? Sort of a subtle reference to Game of Thrones?

Shay.Clover:  I say go for it!  Like a PP mentioned, those who do not follow the series won’t understand and nothing is lost on them.

We had the GoT intro as the intro song to our reception.  We had no influence in actually choosing it, as the best man was MC’ing but it was very fitting.  It’s your wedding so do what makes you happy.

I think it’s sweet. Anyone who gets the reference will probably be nerdy too so they will appreciate it 🙂 and everyone else will just think you wrote your own original vows so they won’t judge you 😛

Shay.Clover:  we’ve talked about including the wedding vows from GOT in ours. We love the unison part of it. They are ““Father, Smith, Warrior, Mother, Maiden, Crone, Stranger, I am his/hers and she/he is mine from this day until the end of my days.” said at the same time. We may change some of the words, because those are the Gods in the book, but we’ll see

Agree with MissComicBook, nothing is too nerdy!! If you like it and it resonates with both you and your fiance, then go for it!
