I think pale looks pretty good in ivory personally. That is why I went for ivory, I did not look washed out.
Since your dress is Ivory, you can pull off a pale complexion. If your dress was starch white, you might need to get a tan. However, if you don't feel like you look good in your dress, tan. Go get a spray tan the week of your wedding. The most important thing is you feel like you look good. If you aren't confident, it will show.
i think it will look just fine Ivory does look good with pale skin. I am pale all the time I am terrified of premature aging so I load on the sunscreen
I'm extremely pale (naturally) and don't even begin to tan. My dress is "off-white," so a mix of ivory and white. I think if you're a bit darker (as I imagine you are, just because I am soooo pale, lol) that Ivory will look amazing!
I have very pale skin, and naturally blond hair (Fitzpatrick type II).
I was after an ivory gown anyways, but two of the bridal salons I visited were adamant that I not get a white dress because it needs a deep tan.
That being said: you & your fiancé may want to go tanning (or spray tanning) together, to give the appearance of "health" and full recovery from his surgery.
I was going to suggest spray tanning too. Although like PPs have said, ivory should look great on you. I got an ivory dress for that same reason!
I think you'd look beautiful : ) But spray tans are great since you can control how dark you want it. I also bought the self tanner lotion in the states and it was awesome (and cheap!)
Thanks so much girls! I really appreciate it! :)
We contemplated spray tans but since we've never had them done before we're worried the colour might turn out patchy or rub off and I'm paranoid of my wedding gown ending up orange streaked under the arms or something.
I'm assuming it would be wise to try it out beforehand to see how a spray tan looks on me? I'm definitely going to have to do something because I tried on a top with a similar corset style back tonight and could see BLUE VEINS on my chest!!... not the look I was going for! :S
@Claire_2010: Try it ahead of time, I think you'll like it! Ask them how far in advance you should do it for your wedding. You cannot shower that night after having it done, so keep that in mind.
I was super pale and wore an ivory dress. I don't tan at all ever.
I love pale! I would be afraid that a spray tan would rub off onto my dress. What about tan towels? I never used them but heard good things.
@TheLionQueen: Tan towels are wet-wipes with tanner on them. People say it's easier to use than spray tan. They sell them at Sephora, Utla, etc. I was thinking of trying it.
If you have olive skin, you might look better with a bit of color. I'm naturally pale, but I get very sallow and sickly looking. Unfortunately, I just don't have that pretty porcelain skin that looks good super pale. I use Glow Fusion self tanner from Sephora. It's subtle, not streaky orange or brown. It just gives a bit of healthy glow. It's expensive, but one bottle lasts me about a year.
Maybe dust a little bit of bronzer on your exposed skin, but go easy on the self tan. If you browse around (even on weddingbee) you will see a lot of orange brides and brides to be. Rather be a bit pale than look like an oompa-loompa.

I live in one of the hottest (if not THE hottest) islands in the mediterranean where most people walk around with tans for most of the year.
Usually, after a summer of splashing around on the beach, i'm one of them. This year however due to my FI having emergency surgery which needed 3 months of continuous care, neither of us have set foot in the sunshine for the whole summer, and because of this we're obviously pretty pale.
My wedding is in 40 days and I just dont have time to go to the beach. How bad would I look in an Ivory dress if i'm super pale? Should I invest in a few indoor tanning sessions? I'm feeling a little bit like Casper the friendly ghost at the moment :(
