Just know that academia is notorious for temporary/interim positions that never become permanent/have the benefits that permanent jobs give. It’s a black hole that even seasoned PhDs are falling into at the moment. It’s a huge part of why I left academics for industry. If the MIT PhDs aren’t getting the permanent jobs, who is?! It was a scary wild west of part time and interim placements. If you’re ok with that (or are lucky enough to score a permanent position in the next couple of years!), then good for you! If not, know that industry has amazing options with good pay and benefits.

Also – I’ve been in a “temporary” position for over 6 years now.
