Yikes, no real advice. What does your OB say? This sounds like a pretty big deal!

@bouncybee:  that’s weird no one will take you as a new patient just because you are pregnant? Maybe your OB knows someone who would take you? I’d do ice in the meantime and whatever pain meds your doc approves. Hope it gets better really quick!

@bouncybee:  How far along are you? And the risk of infection is far worse than the risk of taking antibiotics. If that tooth gets infected and the infection spreads to your blood and then to the baby, then what? If I were you I’d start wearing a mouth guard asap & get into the dentist. There are a LOT of antibiotics that are safe to take during pregnancy. I think this is one of those situations where the benefit of getting the tooth fixed or removed far out weighs the risk. Root canals are safe during pregnancy as is dental work as long as the dentist knows & you and your OB are on the same page. Get yourself checked mama!

@bouncybee:  you’re probably going to need a root canal.  I wouldn’t wait on that.

I know because it’s happened to me.

More serious pankillers are safe for pregnancy, too. You have options.

I know you’re scared of the dentist, but you have to address this.

Can you at least some topical pain reliever like orajel so you can get some sleep.  I have no clue if that’s safe when you’re pregnant.

I would check with your OB for referrals.  Untreated infections of the mouth can be harmful during pregnancy.

@bouncybee:  I would smear some sensodyne toothpaste or orajel back there and leave it on just to help with some of the pain. So sorry you’re going through this. No fun!

@bouncybee:  Ugh, I’m so sorry they can’t see you until tomorrow. Dental pain is the WORST. I’d try the topical anesthetics the other bees mentioned. Would an ice pack help, too?

I had a dental procedure done while pregnant and they have me a mild narcotic painkiller and antibiotics – totally safe.

And smack your husband. :-/ I hope you can get some relief soon!

Absolutely see someone right away. When I had a toothache a year ago, my soon to be husband brought be everything they had for toothaches at CVS because I couldn’t get into the dentist until the next day. There was only one thing that worked at it was this clove-oil. The taste is a little strange, but it worked for the pain, and its a natural remedy which I like. They’ll know what you’re talking about at the drug store if you ask for it. It did help me. I’m sorry this is happening to you!

@bouncybee:  Ooh no I can totally sympathise with you! I broke the tooth next to my two front teeth on Monday eating a lollie (dork!) I also have super brittle teeth and they just fall apart so I should have known better. It looks completely horrible. I rang my midwife and checked with him and he said that dental work is completely fine but no xrays. I rang my dentist and told them and they were completely fine with it and are actually in contact with my past dentist to get a copy of my last xrays from about a year ago.

Im off to the dentist in 30mins to get it sorted. I hope you can do the same. I wouldnt be sitting on it as dental problems during pregnancy can lead to a heap of other complications and if its that bad now its really not going to get better 🙁 Good Luck!
