The FI and I are so miserable here in NYC. We want out! Washington and Oregon are on our list so we’re happy to see it made the top 10!
- 10 – Washington
- 9 – New Hampshire
- 8 – Oregon
- 7 South Dakota
- 6/5 Tied for North Dakota/Maine
- 4 – Nebraska
- 3 – Minnesota
- 2 – Vermont
- 1 – Hawaii
Do you live in one of these states? How do you like it? What town are you from?

Sigh. New Hampshire is awesome.

I hear ya. FI and I can’t wait to get out of Chicago. Washington is gorgeous. FI and I have been to the Seattle area a few times and we didn’t want to leave.

@peachacid: I’ve been to Sunapee, NH quite a few times.
We love it there!

@skippydarling: The in-laws live in NH by the beach, and when we lived in Boston we drove the hour up to their house basically every weekend. NH has everything: awesome hiking, lakes, beaches…plus everyone always seemed so relaxed compared to Bostonians…I miss it (and the in-laws!) very much now that we live in PA.

All states with no auto industry. Hmm… Guess I’m stuck in soul-sucking Michigan. 🙂

@almostmrsj: haha we’re originally from there! We’re thinking of moving back there too.
That’s how much we HATE new york

I’d love to live in Hawaii! But I’d be so far away from my family and friends.
My parents and their families are from Nebraska and South Dakota so I’ve been there a lot…to pretty much every area.
Out of all of those I’d pick Oregon. But I’d also consider Vermont, New Hampshire, or Hawaii!

I LOVE the Pacific Northwest! Here’s an earlier thread with some cool info. I hope it helps you guys 🙂

I live in Seattle, WA born & raised and I love it here, but we are looking to move somewhere that is a bit warmer. We have fantastic summers & that’s about it weather wise.

@skippydarling: LOL! I really don’t hate Michigan. I mean, born and raised, it’s home. Nice cold mornings now, leaves are changing, I love this time of year! My mums and asters are blooming, the yard is buzzing with bees. Can’t get that in Cali (almost took a job there). Just live on the west side or up north – I miss that, but stuck here for jobs now.
My brother moved to Houston and hasn’t looked back. I like it in TX but can’t do the heat. Who in their right mind would move to the most humid city in the country? I visit in the winter. 🙂

I don’t live in any of these, but I know a few people that live in Nebraska and every single one of them hate it. I don’t know all of their specific reasons though, but they all want to move to another state at some point.
I’m kind of surprised about Hawaii. When we were there we were speaking to a tour guide that said most people that live in Hawaii (unless they’re wealthy)have to work 2-3 jobs because the cost of living is so astronomical. During our tour we drove past the guide’s home (it just happened to be on the route) and it was TINY. She and her husband both have 3 jobs. I can see it being a pretty place to live but :-/
That is part of why I am surprised about New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont being on the list. They are beautiful states, but such expensive places to live!

@MrsSweetT: what?! I love Chicago! Granted, I’ve never lived there… I’ve only ever visited.
@skippydarling: I don’t think my state even made it close to that list. I’d love to live in the LA area of CA, but my boyfriend doesn’t want to. If I got serious about going there, he’d go… but it’s so expensive. 🙁 Other than that, we’d maybe want to live in Seattle (he really wants to), but I’m afraid of all the druggy people there, haha.
