After much deliberation we’ve decided to take a cruise for our HM. We were originally planning on taking a 5 day Royal Caribbean cruise from NJ to Bermuda but last night I found, what seems to be, a much better deal.
Royal Caribbean: 5 day cruise in a concierge club suite. The concierge club basically offers upgraded amenities in the suite (fancy soaps and what not) and an open bar for a few hours each night in the private concierge club. All of this for $3100 including taxes and fees ($50 on board credit from the travel agency).
Norwegian: 7 day cruise in a mini suite. This suite has the same amenities as the standard balcony does except it’s larger and apparently has a better bathroom layout. From what I can tell they don’t offer a concierge club like Royal Caribbean does BUT it’s roughly $900 cheaper. This cruise would be $2200 including taxes and fees ($75 on board credit from travel agency).
I personally think that the Norwegian cruise is a much better deal (um hello! 2 extra days and $900 cheaper) but FI’s not convinced. He seems to think that having the concierge club perk will make all the difference but from what I’ve read, I’m not so sure.
The concierge club is only open for a few hours each night and the free drinks can only be consumed inside the club. I don’t know that I want to be tied down to the concierge club each evening just so we can get some free drinks. Besides, that $900 that we’re saving could pay for plenty of cocktails! Also, if we opt for the longer cruise that would give us almost 3 whole days in Bermuda as opposed to about 36 hours with the shorter one.
So, if you were booking a cruise for your HM, which would you go with?

Where do each of the cruises go?

i dont know if ill be any help! free drinks is always a plus! but are you going to drink $900 in alcohol to make up for the difference? Also with cruises, having a nice room is great but really you wont be spending much time in the room – based on my experience – but then again its your honeymoon – so maybe you will be in the room alot 😉
i’ve only ever been on carnival so i cant tell you which one is better -but my vote is norwegian – more for your money!

I’d go with the longer one.

Norwegian without question!!!! $3,100 is crazy to pay for a 5 day cruise. DH and I took a 7 day cruise in February and it cost us less than $2,000 total for an upgraded balcony room.
Tip: DH and I took our cruise on Princess. They let us bring on our own bottle of wine at each stop and let us bring it to our room and drink it during the cruise (no alcohol or beer, only wine). We would have to pay a corking fee if we had them serve it to us during dinner, but we had our room steward bring us wine glasses and we would drink it on the balcony and bring (really) full glasses to dinner so we wouldn’t have to pay anything. Saved us TONS of money! I’d ask about it on your cruise too!

I’d definitely go with the 7-night cruise. Who doesn’t want a longer honeymoon?

I voted for the Norwegian cruise (I completely agree with the way that you’re thinking about things).

Hands down, go with the longer cruise. I would have cried if we had to leave our honeymoon on day 5, I wasn’t ready for it to end…By day 7, I had gotten my fill and was almost ready to go home. lol

The longer one hands down for me! It’s still a nice suite, so I’d give up nice little soaps and the “open bar” (which you’re really paying for since its $900 more) for an extra two days of fun, relaxation, and fooood on my hm.

@highwire: Both cruises go to Bermuda.
@totheislnds: While we do like to drink, I doubt we’d spend upwards of $1000 on alcohol. We also plan to try to smuggle some liquor on.
@CanAmBride: I thought the $3100 was a lot for 5 days as well. I was pretty excited to have found the NCL cruise.
@SuperKate: Exactly. Even though it’s just 2 days, I’m sure it will make our HM feel much longer. Especially having the extra day on land!

Definetly the longer one! 5 days goes so fast!

Definitely NCL because it is cheaper and longer. How many ports does each cruise visit? 5 days on a cruise is too short!!

@JsDragonfly: I’ve heard that from other people. One of my BM’s went to Jamiaca for her HM but they only stayed for either 4 or 5 days (can’t remember). She said it flew by and she regretted not booking for longer.
@pinkshoes: Very true. Frankly, I could care less about fancy soaps but apparently people seem to like them since RCL certainly advertises them.
To me, 2 extra days and $900 CHEAPER is an absolute no-brainer. Hopefully I can convince FI to get “on board”. 🙂

Norwegian for sure! I’ve done a LOT of cruises (man I miss living in Miami!) and my parents still do a Norwegian every year. Concierge level perks are nice and all – but you won’t notice a difference enough to justify that extra cost.
Drinks can be pricey, but do your best to smuggle stuff in 🙂 I’m a heavy drinker and I’d still do the Norwegian… since drinks in a room aren’t nearly as much fun as drinks out on deck or in the casino.
🙂 Good luck!

@UpstateCait: I went on Norweigan & really enjoyed it A LOT. It was a great price, and you can eat whenever you want, which I really enjoyed LOL. You are at Bermuda for a couple days, and can enjoy yourself there too. We smuggled some alcohol in so it was way cheaper for us, as well. I say go for cheaper, and then you can spend more on the boat if you want to go shopping, or anything like that!!
