5/6 days – does this include travel time? For instance if you leave for Rome on Friday, you won’t arrive until Saturday and it might not be until late afternoon depending on where your layover is. If you would have 6 FULL days then I would do Rome. All of my most enjoyable trips there have been for 6-8 full days, whereas my first trip was only 4 days and not all that great – everything was so rushed.

@MASPA:  honestly, if you only have 5/6 days, you will feel so rushed in rome.  i would save that trip for when you have more time (10+ days).  2 of those days are going to be travel plus you will lose some time due to jet lag.  seriously, don’t waste your vacation time and budget on something you won’t fully have time to enjoy.

punta cana would be better for 5/6 days.

save rome (europe) for when you have more time.

You’re debating between a beach and city trip.  I think only you can know the preference.

I’d go punta cana, I really hate rome.

I would choose Punta Cana for the amount of days you have for the trip. Europe is quite a trek if your only going for 6 days it hardly seems worth it!

@MASPA:  I always try to do at least 2 weeks in Europe whenever we go just because it seems exhausting and wasteful otherwise. However, if the rushing doesn’t bother you then I say go for it! I highly, highly recommend having dinner one night at Al Duello. It is fantastic and easily one of my favorite restaurants in all of Europe! We’ll be in Florence for part of our honeymoon and we’re considering taking a train to Rome for just one day just to eat at this place.

I didn’t like Rome, but I did enjoy Punta Cana 🙂 Also, with the traveling, and the jet lag, 6 days is not going to be worth it, like PPs said-maybe save it for when you have 10+ days. Good luck!

we just got back from our honeymoon in italy (venice, florence, rome & sorrento).  I def wouldnt recommend going to venice for that long (we did 2 nights and that was enough. beautiful but very touristy).  florence and sorrento were our favorites.

that said, i’d still pick rome over punta cana.

@MASPA:  I’m not really fond of Italy.  Rome imparticular becasue you will be ripped off on everything.  It would probably be better now then when I went and was 18 and traveling with another 18 year old girl but we were pretty much harassed everywhere.  Tourists are treated like scum.

Think venice is slightly better at least it is prettier, albeight smellier, but they are both smelly lol.

@MASPA:

 Yes, it is hard to find a direct flight to Florence! We’ll be visiting a different city before Florence, so flying there directly from the states wasnt something I had to worry about.

Rome is fabulous IMO. I like it MUCH more than Venice and I hardly know anyone who prefers Venice over Rome. Rome is a gritty city though and I know some people who thought it was dirty and overly crowded, but overall I don’t meet many people who dislike it. I took my FI there for the first time in 2011 and he loved it! It ended up being one of his favorite parts of our trip, which included other parts of Italy and Spain
