I looked at the photographer you posted, and without saying more, I think you should stick with your original choice.
Our photographer is from out of state and they've bent over backwards to create a good working relationship with us. Also, I'll point out that photographers often see with "new eyes" when they go to an unfamiliar place; sometimes that's when we do our best work.
Also, why isn't your photographer making her own travel arrangements? Can you just give her a flat fee?
Crebre... I'm getting awfully familiar with you on these photo boards, haha, Anyway, based on the web site of the photog you posted the link to, I definitely advocate going with the first long-distance photographer you love :)
i just visited her blog and fell in love again. maybe i'll put my assistant on the flight tracker lol it's driving me insane.
I don't want to be harsh, but I think there's really no contest. Your first choice takes much, much better photos.
my dear crebre, my vote is work with fola. i'm sure she would be able to make it work. are you responsible for finding flights for her?
@crebre: I'm still curious why you (or your assistant) are the one dealing with the flight/car/transport for the photographer. What's going on there?
Also, the wedding featured by that 2nd photographer is really pretty. Is it possible you're reacting to what's IN the photos as opposed to the photos themselves? I caught myself doing that a few times.
@Mitla: It was what I agreed to, not a big deal... Perhaps I am, except he shot a wedding I did about a week ago and it wad STUNNING... the bridal portraits were so striking they brought tears to my eyes. I don't want to post them here because the bride was my client but let's just say her pictures were magazine quality. i don't know i'm just tripping disregard.
I've been there Lord only knows. Sometimes you just have too many options when you are actually IN the industry. Remember, you should always go with your first instinct :)
Good luck!
@far: yeah that's what i tell myself. lol i did with M and looked what happened <3. i only second guess myself when i am stressed, but okay lol. glad that i could talk this out with ya'll. i am still going to let the second photog shoot pix of me in edgier poses (here everyone is traditional and it's driving both of us nuts).
Girl, what the heck? How can you NOT go with FOLA!? You have been stalking her for how long? I'm not even going to look at the other site because I know who you need to stick with! You do too. And I know that you know it will be worth it!
I'm flying mine in so I feel your pain, but I know that with anyone else I wouldn't feel as comfortable and I would always think, I wonder what Tim would have done. And by wedding time the extent of our relationship will be blog comments on each others blogs and the time before we were photogs we were stuck in the Amsterdam airport for 6 hrs with nothing to discuss, awkwardly waiting, sitting on the tile in a hallway. You'll be OK... I've done quite a few every year where I don't meet them until the wedding day. You do actually get to know each other a bit... and again, follow your heart. It knows. And you know how you shouldn't do anything less than that in this section of wedding planning.
I think this is an easy decision, and that's all I'm gonna say about that. :p
Ok, I'm from LA too. What about Katy Marshall, Studio Tran, Mark Eric, or Matt Hudson?
@mtyler: yeah i'm from louisiana and have a working relationship with a lot of them (not the ones you mentioned though, most are in louisiana). i really liked fola for no other reason than i just really liked her. most of her pictures make me want to cry because they are so nice and beautiful. i don't know maybe i am just second guessing myself because sometimes i wish we could go hang out like i do with other photogs and i wish i could discuss epix and bridal portraits etc. i feel like i am missing out but i am pretty sure if she didn't shoot my wedding i'd think i'd always wonder what if she would have shot it. maybe i am just jealous of my own clients right now lol...
@klp: it's been nearly a year since I fell in love with her :o) she was one of the first things that i saw when i was at the hive (looking in classifieds) and i was just in love with her work... sigh i am being silly. but i am second guessing everything right now not just that, work is stressful and busy lately...
@sciz: lol thanks girlie
Aww Crebre. You make me giggle. Ditto what KLP said, I thought the same exact thing - you've been stalking Fola forever, changing your mind now will only complicate things. I still stalk my Photog. crush. He's booked for our day so I'll have to book him seperately for a shoot after the wedding.
I remember what Randy said on SYTTD "Finding your gown is like meeting the right man. Once you've got the right one... that's it". Words to live by in my book. ;)
OK, "if I'm being honest" as Simon Cowell would say... there's NO comparison between these two photographers. Honestly, I'm suprised at how much your 2nd choice charges from what I've been there...
If Fola is too far away, why not just search for another photographer in your area that's just as good? :)

I am torn between photographers :(. I adore and love Fola and she is my first choice, but the distance means that I cannot really get a great relationship with her and the morning ceremony is proving difficult for me to figure out the most cost efficient way to get her to the golf resort and back to the city that is least expensive for her to fly into (about two hours away) without paying a higher premium for the NYE flights into Baltimore.
There is another photographer that I love as well... The prices are comparable and the styles are as well.
