'Ello, Bees! After a lot of discussion about it, FI and I have decided to upgrade/replace my e-ring. The original ring is beautiful and will always be sentimental to me, but it's a pearl and already showing signs of wear and I can't find ANY wedding band that I like with it. I prefer not to own a diamond for multiple reasons, so we settled on Moissanite (which is far better for our budget, anyway). I want to wear my e-ring/wedding band together, so I've been perusing their sets and have finally narrowed it down to two choices. However, I am 100% stuck!!!
#1: Cushion-cut halo with side stones and matching band (more views)

#2: Round antique with a thin silver band (more views)

Both are equally appealing to me. I've tried on cushion-cut halos and antique-style rings at jewelry stores, so I have a pretty good visual of what both would look like. I love love love all of the detail in the antique-style ring, but the matching band is a little "blah" to me. At the same time, I'm a little worried that the halo will be too blingy and I'll end up feeling uncomfortable wearing it. Money-wise, ring #1 is about $300 more than ring #2, but both are well within our budget.
I know it's ultimately up to me, but I figured I'd post a poll and see what everyone here thinks :)
I voted #1 because it looks more like a classic wedding set to me. The second ring looks more like a right-hand ring and the band doesn't really work with it IMO.
@Over the Moon: Yeah, I'm worried most about a band with that one (especially since I can't actually see them together). It just looks too thin next to the thicker ring. Idk. Maybe I can try and do some online searching and find pictures of someone wearing them together.
I like the second one but I do think you should find another band for it. Both are beautiful and stunning! :)
Since you said you like antique styles I voted for #2. I actually like that the band is so simple; it's a nice contrast with the ornate ering.
Anyone have suggestions for what kind/style of band might work better with #2?
Both rings are beautiful.
To complicate things- I really love the second ring because I think that it's unique, but agree with you; I don't like the matching band. I wouldn't want to wear the band by itself (is that something you might do?) and I also don't think that the plain band looks..right with all the antique openwork, etc on the engagement ring; it's too plain.
The first ring is really really gorge. You could wear the wedding band by itself if you ever wanted to (there's a new baby in my life and I almost scratched her with my engagement ring and I've stopped wearing my engagement ring for some deep cleaning tasks because I keep knocking it).
Both rings are "classic" IMO, but the first screams ENGAGEMENT RING! :)
If I could vote, I would probably say 2nd ring with a different band, but as is...I guess I'd go with the first one.
Holy crap that was a long post- sorry.
@jocember: I'd definitely rock the gap.

The above kind of replicates the swirls in the antique ring.

This one kind of copies the pear-shaped side areas of the antique ring.

More swirls and milgrain detail.
@ArwenBride: Yeah, that is something I'm keeping in mind - I'm clumsy as hell, and I also work in an area where it isn't always prudent to be wearing flashy jewelry, so I'd like the option to wear my band (haha, the plan band WOULD do good for that though).
I suppose I could always either order the ring + band and decide once I get it, or just buy the ring solo and search for a more complimentary band.
wow, they are both very different. i was expecting something a bit more similar. which one would match your everyday style more? which one do you see yourself wearing in 10, 20, 30+ years? can you wearing the matching band by itself ?
personally, i love the first one. i love cushion cut and i really like the halo thing. i have just never been into the scrolling, antique look myself.
both very beautiful. can't go wrong with either.
I would go for the secord one. As much as I like halo's I just think that one is much more original and you are unlikely to meet someone with the same ring as yours. That's why I have voted for that though both are lovely!
@ArwenBride: Thanks, those are really beautiful! I think I like the middle one the best, I like that it replicates the pear-shaped side stones (which is actually my fave part of ring #2) and I think the spacing would look really nice. Hmm, I think you may have helped me make a decision!
@jocember: Yay! :) I'm glad to have helped.
The one you picked from the 3 I posted is also my favourite.
@mypinkshoes: The more I think about it, I believe #2 would be the best choice for me. I love the look of Halos, but I've always been more about detail and design which the antique gives.
I will probably get a halo right-hand ring at some point because I do really love how they look. I definitely enjoy the "polished" look that set #1 presents, but the antique is absolutely more true to "me" and my personality.
I went with #1 becasue that one is on my secret e-ring wishlist! I love simple, dainty sparlies...SO hasn't started talking rings yet, but my BFF knows how to steer him when the times comes
@jocember: that sounds like a great compromise. can't wait to see your pics.
@MissGreenBean: It is gorgeous, isn't it? I hope that your BFF is able to steer him in the right direction :)
I think the second one is stunning! Your pearl ring looks so great on your hand (saw it in other threads) and I feel like the second ring is more similar to your original ering size-wise. I *personally* don't particularly care for the thinner diamond bands even though they are very in right now. I like the look but I have lost stones out of similarly styled bands so I steer clear.
Of course, it comes down to what you and your FI want! I think both of them definitely look "engagement-y" so I wouldn't worry about that.
I will say that I also don't like the plain band with ring #2. You can definitely find a band that will look better with it. This site has a lot of antique style bands in a range of styles, metals, and prices: www.jansjewells.com/category.php?category_id=140
I looked at their site to find a wedding band for my own antique ring, but ultimately went somewhere else so I can't really attest to their service. But it popped into my head when I saw the second ring you like.
Good luck :)
@starla: Oh wow, they have some gorgeous bands! Thanks for the link. Yeah, I just talked to FI about it over the phone and he told me he was secretly pulling for ring #2 but wanted me to make the decision. I didn't even think about the potential to lose stones in the multistone band... eik, that's a scary thought and I'd always be worrying about that!
I also agree that size-wise, it'd be similar to what I have now. I'm comfortable with the size/styling of my current ring, so that'd be a plus.
I love the antique, swirly look, it's very unique. You mentioned that it seems more "you" and it's the one your FI is pulling for, so I voted for #2. Please share pics of whichever one you decide on, they are both pretty!
@MissPine: I definitely will! Our timeline for the replacement is probably going to be our 5-year anniversary in September, since we both have some financial obligations that need to be taken care of before a "frivilous" purchase is made.
But I will be sure to post the ring porn whenever I do get it :) I'm kind of hoping maybe he'll surprise me earllier than September, but he's not a big surprise guy so that's doubtful lol.
Maybe something like these?

The ring's thick enough wearing rings on separate hands might be worth considering as well, then you wouldn't have to worry about finding a band that's just right. Honestly, I think it would be worth getting the matching band just to see if it'll work.
personally, I am not a fan of rings that have a super thick elaborate band, so I voted for the halo.
Have you thought about engraving the wedding band for #2 and giving it a milgrain edge so that it looks like it goes with the engagement ring?
I think the first one is a lot more elegant and classy. The second one is indeed unique and certainly has a vintage flair to it, but I think I like the traditional more.
@ArwenBride: Holy crap that last band you posted made my jaw drop to the FLOOR!
@jocember: I voted for 1 as is, because I do think it has a classic look to it, where the antique one might not look as good in person and the matching band is blah and doesn't match it all that well, IMO. If you were to pick one of the fancier engraved bands to pair with it, then I would like it more (depending on what it looked like on your hand, of course). So basically, I'm no help.
i like them both but i think #2 has more flair and orginality...plus you can do some awesome looks with a diff band
Has to be 2, both because I think it is your style from what you said before, and because I think it is stunning. I really don't like 1, also. I know this style of ring seems popular right now, but I find them a bit... blingy. I also think that this style will look very dated, very quickly. So 2 is the clear winner for me!
I chose number 2 becuase I like the uniqueness of the swirls and how it looks classic and antique in style. I don't think you can go wrong with either of them, but I vote #2
Aw, I'm sorry your pearl is showing signs of wear. From what I've heard, they are pretty soft. I would vote #2. I love the uniqueness of the design! And while halos are beautiful, they're kind of everywhere right now.
I really like #2. I like how it's more unique setting, and I really like the idea of the matching "mismatched" bands. The detailing is gorgoues. Plus halo isn't my favorite, I find it kinda trendy. I understand the bling-y apeal, it's just not my style of bling. What matters most is what YOU will love to wear on your finger <3
Both are beautiful! I voted for #1 (I have a similar wedding set). I like on my set how the band fits underneath the stone so there's no gap. But I also like that if I wanted to just wear my wedding band, I could simply take off my e-ring and still have a pretty band that isn't an odd-shape. That's just me though. I don't think you can go wrong either way!
I love #2!
I usually don't like thick or ornate bands, but that one is so unique and romantic-looking~
