I am in your boat. I think it really depends on when you're looking. I found that Bellvue Manor is remarkably reasonable if you're looking at an off season date. I am now in the process of trying to find some reviews of the venue as far as the staff, how reliable and trustworthy they all are. Has anybody heard anything about Bellvue Manor or Rob (the owner)?
Your help is greatly appreciated!
A few I've heard are more affordable include Bluffer's Restaurant and Fantasy Farm. I think that Heintzman House which is near Thornhill can also be on the more affordable side because you can bring in your own caterer.

So, I am in the beginning stages of reception venue hunting, and sadly learning that any info from providers that advertised at wedding shows are likely outside our budget. (darn minimum reception fees).
Can anyone out there suggest reception venues of any sorts, where I would be able to do a meal for 100 people for about $50/person ... I'd prefer to offer a cash bar and not a host bar, and not have to pay rental rates on top of the per person cost.
I'm finding at the venues I've looked at, their minimum rental rates are beyond my ideal budget of $5000.00, and the only way to obtain that is to include a host bar, which we can't afford.
