We’ve been talking budget alot here recently and we’re trying to figure out how to budget and get our wedding paid for!
We have settled with we dont want to go over 13- Hopefully my parents are going to put in 5, I’m going to put 2 grand on my credit card as the deposit for the venue and then we’ll only have to save 375 a month. The only thing I havent included in the total budget is my dress; We’ll see what that ends up running.
So heres my question; Whats your total budget? Parents put any in? Did you set up a monthly ‘budget’ to save for the wedding day?

Make sure you have about 10% set aside for unexpected costs. There are a lot of little things that will add up that you don’t account for. Even with a generous contingency and still staying under the maximum budget, we were still over my ideal amount when all was said and done.

Our budget was around 15K. We are paying for it ourselves and put aside around $500 each into a joint account. Now that the wedding is closer, I’ve actually noticed that all the deals ive gotten from planning early have paid off and were looking at around a 13k wedding. We’ve had around 20 months to save so the rest of the $$ we’ve put in will start off our joint savings for a house nicely!

Don’t forget the little hidden costs – service charges, alterations etc. Make sure you account for that when you plan your budget.

Get wedding insurance (re: my post on losing our venue) and know that you CAN stay within a budget. I have even w the hiccups. You just have to be prepared to let some things go.

Our budget was $15k – we ended up spending around $19k (not including rings and honeymoon). My parents chipped in $4,000 and groom’s parents paid for rehearsal dinner. We ran into several hiccups along the way that made the price go up… we had a combination photographer/videographer/dj package booked at an extreme deal and the company went bankrupt and I had to go book each of those separately and gave up the huge discounted price in the process. Also, our photo booth vendor that I booked via groupon cancelled the week before our wedding and I had to go out and book another, again giving up the huge discount in the process. All in all I am extremely happy with the way everything ended up. I would suggest putting as much as you can on your credit card (even if you have the cash, then just pay it off with the cash) to help insure you against issues like I ran into.
