My dream dress is Vera Wang Diana. I was worried because I was petite that the dress would engulf my body and swallow me. However, when I went to try it on at the store, it fit FPERFECTLY and I loved it!!! My only concern was price – its $5000 over my budget! However I do have the money and would have spent it on this dress if I didn’t find one on preowned.com in the next couple months. Then I would have resold it and hopefully gotten some money back.
HOWEVER when I showed my mother this dress originally on a model, she absolutely hated it. Hated the skirt, hated it all. I was hoping when she saw the pictures of me in it and how good it looked and that it actually was slimming and how much I loved it she would change her mind. However, nope, she still hates it. hates the look of the “unfinished” skirt, hates the “poufiness” of it.
I know we have completly different tastes and I wouldn’t mind if she didn’t love it but she seems to actually hate it and I know if I chose it she would be happy for me cause I was happy but I would also love to get something she likes too.
THe clincher is, everyone else also seems to want me in something totally different than this dress, except for a few girlfriends who like fashion and/or something different. My aunt, my sister (who is also my MOH) all say they like the slim fitting lace style on me better since I have a small body and “I should show it off”. One of my best friends/bridesmaids was there for the fitting with the Diana and it won her over cause she saw how much I loved it, but when I tried on the slim lace one she loved it (more i think!) and said that was the one she had pictured me in previous to seeing how much I loved Diana.
I also showed my fiances best man 2 pictures and asked him to pick between Diana and a slim lace gown, and he said Diana was nice but he preferred the lace. I asked my fiance if he thought he would like more of a beautiful ballgown style dress or a slimmer fitting one (didn’t want to give too much away) and of course being a guy he said slim fit as well.
I am so confused. I feel like if everyone thinks I look better in the slim lace then maybe I should just get one when I find one that is perfect and it would probably be a better price, please my mother, and everyone would think I look good. But I still love the Diana and am not sure I am ready to give up some dream pictures of myself on the wedding day in it – twirling for the first dance in the big, gorgeous skirt, walking down the beach with it trailing behind – I am worried I am just going to look a bit plain and forgettable in a slim lace dress! Can you bees help me make a decision and lay this to rest – I need to find a dress ASAP as my wedding is in August and everyone keeps telling me I need to order a dress 8 months before the wedding! Going dress shopping this weekend so keeping my fingers crossed I find a lace one I love as much as Diana but not sure if I will…… here are some pics….

I don’t see pictures. Edited: There they are. I think the dress looks great on you, even though I am not a huge fan of what your mother called the unfinished look. The style looks good.
How tall are you? <–ignore this… I think it will all depend on how dresses look on you once you start trying them on. <–still this

I think you look pretty fantastic! When it comes down to it, you’re the one wearing the dress. You need to love it, you need to feel like a bride in it, you need to be able to imagine walking down the aisle to your Fiance in it.
ETA: The second set of pictures finally showed up for me. I do like both. But I still stand by what you love most.

I still like the style of the first one over the second two. I don’t think the mermaid/sheath style is flattering on anyone, though, so I’m not the best to ask!

I think you look gorgeous in the Diana! Honestly, we only get one chance to be a bride. You should wear the dress that makes you feel most beautiful and bridal. Your mom might groan a little at first, but when she sees you all dressed up on your wedding day, she will love it, I’m sure. Don’t worry about what everybody else thinks. Go for the dress that fits your vision and makes you feel like a beautiful bride!

I don’t like the bottom of the first one. It’s just not my style, the other 2 are better

I think the Diana is much more “wow.” The others look fairly typical to me. However, can you do $5000 over your budget? I think Diana costs around $7000, so that means you tried on a dress that was triple your budget. While it pains me to say this because I love VW’s quality, you should check out the Vera Wang White collection at David’s Bridal. There is a dress there that is very similiar to Diana but made overseas with cheaper fabric:
ETA: you could get it altered to a strapless

The last one is definitely my favorite!

@BooRadley: I tried these DB dresses on. They were nowhere near the quality of Diana, although they were still nice styles. If I was going to go with a dress that pisses my mom off, it better be my dream dress:P Yes it was way over budget – but I will just sell it after and I make my own money and got a bonus this year, so the excess won’t be coming out of the “wedding budget”- also I will look online for a used one but if it came down to it I would just get the brand new one and try to sell. I just wish my family/friends/mom liked it and didn’t like the slim lace better – otherwise I don’t know if it would be worth the extra cost just to have me liking it!
ETA here is a pic of me in that dress – not loving how the fabric falls, especially in the front:P

How about a happy medium? This is from David’s Bridal Vera Wang collection, more form-fitted but still has the same skirt you like:
(Sash is removeable.)

I personally like the 3rd dress the more sheath like one….the bottom of the first dress i sjust too huge in my opinion, but if you love it go for it.

@llgraham: You look very good in all three. Personally, I think that Vera Wang is yummy. And I am a fan of lace dresses (prefer your 2nd lace dress of the two.)
I think I’d go for that soft, creamy full skirt of the Vera.
