We aren't into it. We don't give out candy (don't have the money to give candy away to random people).
I am so confused. I never trick or treated on any day other than Halloween as a kid- no matter what day of the week it fell on. Earlier this week my boss kept asking me when trick or treating was and I was so confused- I reallyhad no idea people did it on other days. Is this a regional thing at all?
@MissAsB: I'm with you. I'm not into it (DH I think would be but he works 2nd so he isn't here) and I don't have the extra money
@Helstrong: Maybe? I'm in PA and it's always been a different night depending on which county you live in. I guess to keep things organized and safer? And maybe so those kids who like to get a sugar high can go to every relatives neighborhood and collect each night? Kidding
I know a lot of people here are trick or treating tomorrow because we are in a very religious area and I think that people don't want to celebrate Halloween (a pagan holiday) on a Sunday.
I'm so not into it. At all. As in right now I am sitting in my living room with the porch light out, the living room lights dimmed and the TV volume down low to trick them into thinking that no one is home.
@nqz100: I'm kinda doing the same thing. I have the TV on and one small light on. We can't turn the light outside the apt door out otherwise that would be out too.
@MissAsB: I feel like Halloween isn't really a big deal around here for the same reasons. We live in such a religious area that many people are against it.
@pansyshell: Hmm- I so had no idea this happened. i feel quite stupid now haha
Nah, no one goes trick-or-treating on a night other than Halloween.. right?? Oh no :(. I'm so not preparred for kids to come, we have no candy (we don't even know if we're gonna go buy candy at all). My dog is gonna start freaking out. This weekend is gonna be crazy!
@pansyshell- where in PA? I am in the suburbs out of Philly, I have never gone or seen children go trick or treating any night other than actual Halloween, even if it is a weekday.
@megan215: Lancaster County. Here is a link to WGAL that has all the times and nights for the Susquehanna Valley. It must be broken down between the counties and then some townships/burrows are different but mostly the entire county is the same. I'm not sure if your in one of these counties or not...I think when I was younger it was always the 30th or 31st.
I just did a quick search and saw other areas of the country do it different days too. If you search when is Trick or Treat 2010? a bunch of dates and times come up for all over.
I just saw this article form the Washington Post saying Trick or Treaters found a suicide victim on his front stoop in Lewisberry, Pa last night! That would be enough to creep me out and make me hate Halloween forever. Those poor children.
@MissAsB: DH and i actually asked ourselves if we should pass out candy this year since it falls on a Sunday. kinda feels weird to go to church in the am, and then pass out candy that night. but then again, technically tomorrow is "devil's night" right?
anyway, last year was our first year in our home so we bought a TON of candy. and we only had like 30 kids come by. this year, we bought chocolate a couple weeks ago bcuz we had coupons.... and between DH, myself, and friends who've come by ... we're prolly gona have to re-stock before Sunday LOL.
we'll see though, i'm not expecting a lot of kids in our neighborhood... but then again, knowing our luck, this year we'll get slammed!
i never heard of trick or treating before halloween. i haven't trick or treated since...junior high? lol. we don't pass out candy anyway so it's not a big deal. i'm definitely not passing out candy this year. sorry kiddos but the world series is on. i'm not leaving my couch.
@Helstrong: As for the regional-ness of when trick or treat is, when I lived in Ohio, no one trick-or-treated on the weekends--trick-or-treat night was never on halloween and only on weekdays.
When I moved to Atlanta I learned everyone else does trick-or-treat on Halloween, no matter what day it falls on! Here's how my first halloween in Atlanta convo went:
Me: So guys, what night is trick-or-treat here?
My friends: Um, October 31st...
Me: No, I mean, I know Halloween is on October 31st, but when's trick-or-treat??
My friends: on HALLOWEEN!
Me: *so confused*
hahaha
@whiteorchid: That is EXACTLY how the conversation went with my boss earlier this week. I honestly thought it was playing some joke on me because he's knows i'm gullible and likes to make things up to see if I will believe them.
I have never heard of trick-or-treating any night other than Halloween. What the heck?! I'd be totally confused if a kid rang my doorbell tonight or tomorrow night! LOL!
@Helstrong: Same here, only on Halloween night no matter when it falls.
That is the weirdest thing I've ever heard!
Trick or treat = Halloween. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday...whatever day it falls on!
My favorite night all year is Halloween. I love carving intricate pumpkins, decorating the front of the house, and seeing all the cute costumes that come to the door. So. Awesome.
This is the pumpkin I did this year:
I've never heard of trick or treating on any day other than Halloween.
However, we had kids coming by work today dressed up and trick or treating. It never even occurred to me that they might come by a police station, and didn't really have anything, so I pulled out some police dog stickers and got YELLED at by a parent for not having candy. The nerve of some people....
Here in Kentucky, if Halloween falls on a school night, they have been known to move trick or treating to the following friday, which is when I thougt the kids would be coming around, but this year they're keeping it on Sunday night. We are stocked and ready to go! I actually love Halloween trick or treating since it's another excuse to wear a costume - I can be ironic or sexy for my adult Halloween parties and then I get to come up with a whole new silly or pretty costume for the trick or treaters.
@pansyshell: Yikes that sucks!!! Im sorry :( Luckily for me they did an official announcement on the news here in charleston SC about when trick or treating was going to be and luckily its going to be on Sunday. Which works out great since I have an adult party on Saturday and we went to a friends house to do pumpking carving last night!
Even though I have never heard of trick or treating any day but on 10/31, I just did a google search and there are a ton of articles about what night trick or treating was.

So I'm sitting in our apt and the doorbell rings, which is rare. The dogs go nuts and I slowly go to the door to look out the peep hole. It's a little kid dressed up for trick or treat! But we don't have any candy in the apt!!!
I feel terrible! I totally forgot tonight was trick or treat night and I didn't even think to get candy. We hardly ever see kids around here so I guess it slipped my mind even though DH kept telling me all week tonight was the night for out county. I guess since we never got trick or treaters where I lived growing up and we didn't really get into it that I just over looked the entire thing. I feel bad for the kiddies. I guess our door bell will be going off all night though.
Did anyone else forget or is just not that into Halloween?
