You can just drop it in the mail as long as you are sure your postage is correct and it has all the right paperwork attached. No need to go to the post office unless you want them to stamp your receipt with the date.

Does anyone know whether when sending a letter by certified mail, with a return receipt requested, it has to be dropped off to someone at the post office? Or can I just put it in the mailbox with the correct postage on it? I'm wondering since the mail is tracked whether I have to give it to someone or I can just drop it in the mailbox.
