It should be illegal everywhere to do it without her permission, especially after she says no! Good on you Pennsylvania!

Totally support this.

Some strange woman in Walmart tried to touch me, when I backed away and put my hands over my tummy she lauged and said ‘aren’t you cute’ and reached out to touch me again I swatted her hand and said “that’s assult”, she got angry. I HATE being touched by strangers.

I’ve never been pregnant, but what the hell?! I’m glad it’s illegal in PA, yet I’m kind of appalled that it NEEDS to be.

Good. People need to keep their goddam hands to themselves.

@Jacqui90:  +1

If someone says no you shouldn’t touch them anywhere. Not sure why people think it’s okay just because someone is pregnant. Why in the world would you want to touch a stranger’s pregnant belly anyways?

ETA: one of my friends has a six month old. I feel like a get at least a text a week about someone reaching out to touch her daughter or even trying to pick up her daughter. I don’t understand people!

I LOVE when people touch my belly!

But if she said no and he did it anyway? That SHOULD be illegal! No means no!

Technically touching anyone anywhere against their will is illegal. It’s called battery.

@ImagineDragon24:  My thought exactly. Why did they need another law saying you cant touch somebody againsted their wishes?

Good. I’ve never understood why some people think it’s okay to do this. I would definitely not be the “grin and bear it” type.

No means no!

I’m curious about this phenomenon however since it seems to be a common online complaint yet IRL, I never experienced unwanted belly touching nor have ANY family, friend, aquaintance…

In fact, I’ve only ever heard it complained about online, occasionally from pregnant women but usually from those ttc and anticipating a potential issue.

I understand that in this case (and others I’m sure), its a violation of personal space and a crime but I read about this all the time, is it really that common?

@MaggieF:  I’m 23 weeks pregnant and I’ve had three different people touch my belly without my permission – one family friend and two co-workers. I know they mean well, but it makes me feel really uncomfortable. Unfortunately I’m too polite to make them aware that I don’t like it, so I just grin and bear it. I’m working on it…

This is so so excessive. Give me a break! Sue the guy if he’s being inappropriate, it doesn’t need to be a law
