we had talked and always felt that we would keep photos to under $2000. I found a photographer who had nice photos for $1400 and included engagment photos. After looking around some more I found a great photographer/videographer who shoots engagment and than 11hrs of the day all the way from getting ready (both bride and groom bc its 2 photographers and videographers) to the end of reception. You also get a video and all rights to your photos plus photo books for $3700. this photographer ended up coming as a recommendation from two ppl on the same day, one who was a professional photographer.
because it’s 1700 over budget my fiancé wasnt thrilled. Our wedding is looking to cost around $30’000. We make good money and have all the money we need for the wedding saved ($26’000) plus my parents are giving us $7’000 plus the dress. In exchange for the upgrade in photography I proposed that we downgrade our wedding bands to plain gold bands. The bands were budgeted at $3’000 and now will be at or under $1500 (probably under $1’000).
i have a very simple and delicate engagment ring that I felt would look better with a blingy band. I kinda feel like if we get plain bands I won’t wear my engagment ring, just the band…
Would you down grade your wedding band for an better photographer? I feel like i could get a nice blingy band for a 5 year anniversary but I could never get my photos or a video of my wedding done once it’s passed?

Mrs.Z.: YES!!!! You can always get an upgraded wedding band- you can NEVER go back and recreate or capture your wedding day.
3700 is a great deal for photo and video- 2000 is the low end for a pro and with this line item more than any other I think… You get what you pay for.

The way I see it is that you have one day to get the photos of your dreams, but you have a lifetime to decide if you want to upgrade your jewelry. If I was faced with the same choice, I would absolutely put more towards the photography and less towards the bands. I personally love the look of plain bands and they will always look classic. You could also look into engraved bands to add a little more visual interest if you feel like you need something more with your engagement ring.

If you make good money and can afford it, I’d just go for both. Another 1500 isn’t much over compare to 30k overall budget.

Thanks ladies. I’m relieve you feel the same way! It’s good reassurance IM not making a mistake!
pinkshoes: I kI da feel the same way but I also think if we don’t keep to our $30’000 budget we will continue to say….well it’s only this much or that much and the next thing you know were at $60’000. I also think my fiancé agreed to the upgrade in photography bc I was willing to sacrifice something.

I think if you’re willing to sacrifice something – wedding rings is where I would not cut! You’ll be wearing that ring for the rest of your life. Sure you’ll upgrade later… but that’s just money you’ll have to spend at one point. If you have the $1500, I agree, just spend it and get yourself a good photographer and the ring you love!
