that dress looks great on you! imo, a longer traditional veil might compete with all of the detailing at the top of the dress (assuming it goes all the way around the bust).
but i don't think you should shy away from a veil if you really want one. i don't think it has anything to do with age. go with whatever makes you feel most beautiful :) congrats and best of luck!
First off, you look BEAUTIFUL in your dress - I would never have guessed that you are 44! I love the idea of a fingertip length veil with your dress and think you should go for it!
I wouldn't worry about age when deciding against a long veil, but I do think a birdcage veil would look really cute with your dress.
I don't think there is a relationship between age and veil length. I'm in my 30s and had a waltz length veil. That said, choose the veil that feels right to you. In all honesty, I'd completely skip a veil with that dress and opt for a lovely hair flower instead. I think a flower would compliment the soft, romantic look of the dress.
As for a bolero, it would need to be something very simple and soft. The top of your dress has a lot going on, so you wouldn't want the bolero to compete with that. A sheer fabric, like organza, may be nice, or a very simple silk. Nothing fussy, that's for sure. And I'd probably go for elbow length, which would hit right at your waistline and really acentuate how great your waist looks in that dress.

I'm getting married for the first time in May. I'll be (gasp!) 44 years old. My MOH really thinks I should have a traditional veil, but I don't know. I guess I associate veils with younger brides, but I think it would look really nice.
Another option I'm leaning toward is a shrug and bird cage veil. Our wedding will be outdoors, so it might be slightly chilly (thus the shrug) and our theme is vintage/outdoorsy (thus the birdcage veil). My hair will probably be a half-updo.
Or, I could skip a veil altogether and just go with a shrug.
At any rate, I could use some guidance on what type of shrug to get...something plain, lacy, ruffly, long-sleeve, short-sleeve?
What do you guys think?
Thanks, all!
