I wasn't an encore bride, but I went totally unconventional. And that second dress is gorgeous...
I LOVEEEE the second one. I'm not an encore bride, either, but wow. Are you going to wear a veil with it?
I hope you are choosing a less conventional dress because you want to and not because people are making you feel like you have to. I'm only saying this because my mom has been married twice, and some of her family members told her it would be inappropriate for her to wear a traditional dress the second time around. She wore a lace white gown because she wanted to, and she said she's really happy she did because it's how she envisioned herself.
I think if you want something unconventional, the second dress is really cool.
But I also think the traditional white gown is really gorgeous.
So pick the one you like best without thinking about the fact that you're an encore bride.
I love the 1st one, but the 2nd one stopped me dead in my tracks. I'm just a little nervous about the reaction (not from FI but from extended family, both his and mine).
@katmumn: Then definitely go for the second one. If you think both you and your SO would love it, forget about the family. This is your wedding!
The second dress is totally beautiful. My encore dress was teal and tea length.
They are both gorgeous and as far as traditional gowns go, I am in love with that first one. I've never seen it.
did you wear a traditional gown for your first wedding?
My jaw literally dropped at the second one. I'm not an encore bride, and I TOTALLY support encore brides going the traditional route - after all, it's not like most of us first-time brides are going to the altar as virgins. But that second dress...it is just a stunner. I love it.
i'm HOPING to go the unconventional route (if i can find what i want)...otherwise it'll be unconventional-lite. although, it's not because i'm an encore bride...it's because we're an unconventional couple and this is what we want.
(by the way...who is the designer on that second gown? OMG it's to DIE for...)
I love the 2nd dress. I imagine it with a floor lenght veil or birdcage. But I think it would be best in a champagne, gold or blush color.
I am an encore bride. I went untraditional the first time because we had lived together for several years before we got married and I felt pressure by the whole "White symbolizes purity" stuff. I regreted it all the way down the aisle and long after. This time I am doing the bridal thing!! Long, Ivory lace no train though and no veil. So I say go for the dress YOU love don't let anyone or anything stop you from having this be the best day of your life!!! When people ask me, 'haven't you been married before" I always answer , "Not to him, I haven't". Enjoy your day and good luck!
I'm am a newly engaged encore bride and just started looking for my wedding dress. I have been looking at the traditional ones and have not found anything that says "I'm the one!!". After seeing your second photo I am seriously considering a non-traditional dress. I LOVE the second one!! Where did you find that one if you don't mind me asking??
If I had a chance to wear that 2nd dress, I'd take it! I went traditional for my wedding simply b/c I got caught-up in trying them on and I didn't think I would ever be wearing one. Now I wish I had gone with the unique, colorful gown I orginally thought I'd wear. Whatever makes you feel amazing is what you should do!
I agree with PP who said to wear what you like. I'm an encore (3rd time) bride and I'm going non-traditional. I've never been a fan of the poofy white pastry looking dress.
@justelope...I love the second dress too! Unfortunely Jovani has discontinued making the dress. If you don't mind it in black and wear a size eight, they do have two of those left. But not in the blue. I have checked with several local boutiques and many across the states, with no luck. One boutique was even kind enough to contact the designer directly, and that's when we found out they discontinued the design. If you find a boutique that still has them in stock, please let me know. I'd love one too. Good luck in your search!
It's FI's first wedding, and I feel like he deserves to have his bride in the white dress.
OOH I love the second one!! I haven't picked my dress this time, but I'm leaning towards a non-conventional dress in a lighter spring-like color like champagne.
I like the less conventinal approach like the ones here: http://wowthemevents.blogspot.com/2012/02/encore-bridal-gowns.html
I think you should do what is going to make YOU happiest! Both look great. I opted for a traditional long ivory A-line wedding dress but the thought did cross my mind to find a dress in a light lime green (my favorite) since I live and die by that color. My engagement ring is a lime green peridot gemstone so it wouldn't be completely out of character for me. Our relatives would have died, but guess what? It isn't up to them!
@bluespurrs, Where did you find that dress? I am also 50 and marrying for my 3rd (his second) time. I wouldn't count my 1st except that I have a wonderful son. My second husband raised my son and we had another together - both are wonderful young men. My husband passed away 4.5 years ago, and I've met a wonderful man who LOVES me! I want something light and delicate and beautiful... just like yours :)

I'm wondering how many encore brides went the long white dress route vs. going something less traditional?
I'm really torn. I've found 2 dresses I could see myself wearing - 1 traditional and 1 not. Trying to decide which route to go.
