That is sad. I wonder why'd they try to make it so difficult.
That's awful! I can't imagine how devastated his family must be.
It reminds me of the young dancer who fell into the hydraulics before the Beijing opening ceremony and they cut her number. From what I gather she can't walk anymore - she was a world class dancer from a poor Chinese family. It's just so heartbreaking :(
Oh my goodness! That is heartwrenching! Prayers go to his family/friends/team members during this time. :(
oh. wow. i just showed my mom and my dad - wow. all my prayers go out to these people.
Yeah I just saw this on NBC and saw the video of his run - its horrifying. I dont know why they would make the track so fast and dangerous...or why they wouldnt put padding on those steel beams....or make the wall higher. He was so young....and it's so sad that he was so short of reaching his dream. My thoughts are with his family and friends and all of the athletes who will be competing over the next few weeks....Im sure their hearts and minds are extremely heavy.
yea, i saw the video too.. i didnt know about the story and they just started showing luge and i yell to my FI, "i always thought this looked like a fun sport!! its sledding!" then i choked on my words when i saw what they were showing... so so so sad.. and only 21.. i couldnt imagine.
This is such a terrible tragedy. They need to take precautions to prevent the loss of another innocent life.
what a tragic way to begin the olympics... hopefully it will only be good news from here on out. Thoughts are with his family & friends tonight.
athletes are pushing the boundries these days but there has to be a limit to what the body should be doing.
i hope they put up a blocker around that curve.
Omg, just saw this on tv... that is so so sad!! Bringing tears to my eyes.
Awww... It was so sad watching the small group of Georgians walking during the opening ceremony. I got so choked up.

a young luge slider has passed away this afternoon after a practice run gone wrong. many athletes have questioned the safety of this run as its been called the worlds fastest. have they pushed the limits too far... will they be forced to make a quick change to the track?
all i can do is hope they do change the track, and i am praying for the young mans family in this tragic time.
