a young luge slider has passed away this afternoon after a practice run gone wrong. many athletes have questioned the safety of this run as its been called the worlds fastest. have they pushed the limits too far... will they be forced to make a quick change to the track?

all i can do is hope they do change the track, and i am praying for the young mans family in this tragic time.

That is sad.  I wonder why'd they try to make it so difficult.

That's awful! I can't imagine how devastated his family must be.

It reminds me of the young dancer who fell into the hydraulics before the Beijing opening ceremony and they cut her number. From what I gather she can't walk anymore - she was a world class dancer from a poor Chinese family. It's just so heartbreaking :(

Yeah I just saw this on NBC and saw the video of his run - its horrifying. I dont know why they would make the track so fast and dangerous...or why they wouldnt put padding on those steel beams....or make the wall higher. He was so young....and it's so sad that he was so short of reaching his dream. My thoughts are with his family and friends and all of the athletes who will be competing over the next few weeks....Im sure their hearts and minds are extremely heavy.

This is such a terrible tragedy. They need to take precautions to prevent the loss of another innocent life.

athletes are pushing the boundries these days but there has to be a limit to what the body should be doing.

i hope they put up a blocker around that curve.

Awww... It was so sad watching the small group of Georgians walking during the opening ceremony.  I got so choked up.
