Last summer I decided that I wanted to go with Transformer style dresses for my bridesmaids since I have so many shapes to accommodate in the bridal party & want everyone to look and feel their best.
I picked burgundy since my colors are the Chicago flag & figured that burgundy is a more universally flattering color than light blue and more likely to be worn again rather than banished to the Goodwill pile after the wedding.
A friend who had transformer gowns in her outdoor wedding several years back recommended Von Vonni bc she said that they went with a random etsy seller who didn’t do such a great job on the sewing. At the time they were having a half off ($59) sale so all of my maids jumped on it right away….except my two sisters.
In all fairness….one of my sisters is 10 years younger & has never been in a bridal party other than as a flower girl so she has no idea about the potential headaches/hassles of bridesmaid dresses. My other sister is a plus size and had been sending emails to customer service about having a roomier version made.
Then came the dramatics… Von Vonni stopped responding to their Facebook account, Twitter account and pretty much all customer service requests. And they even disconnected their two phone numbers(!)
Fortunately Amazon.com had some long versions in overstock and we were able to order two for my sisters. Sadly, Amazon sent us a burgundy dress and a tomato red dress (so close, yet so far…). We kept the correct one, returned the incorrect one & miraculously found a lady on Poshmark selling a long one out of her closet.
Today we went to a dressmaker who is shortening both of the long dresses to knee length & using the excess fabric to sew in an extra panel & build a tube top for my plus size sister. Hurray! Now everyone in the bridal party has a gown and won’t be walking down the aisle naked. Super glad it all worked out, although it took a little extra creativity to get it all to happen.
Really disappointing about Von Vonni though. I felt really sad reading through their Facebook page because there’s a ton of ladies with messages about “I ordered 6 dresses for my bridal party and have heard nothing from you guys – what happened?!” Yikes! I can’t believe they still have their online shop active and have made no explanations for themselves.
Good luck to everyone else who may be experiencing adventures in bridesmaid gowns!
