We need to charter a bus to shuttle guests back and forth between our reception site (which is a resort and where about 50% of guests are staying) and one of the other, less expensive hotels.  It is a pretty remote area, but we are only renting one bus and the quote I got was for 1K.  This seems pricy to me.

If you did this type of thing, how much did it cost you?

From what I've looked at in my area that's the norm.  Boo.

Because our wedding is in rural NH, we don't have too many options...so I'm afraid we might need to go with this quote.

I do feel compelled to provide guests with transportation since the resort/reception site is about $115 more expensive a night for guests and not everyone can afford do tsay there.

Ya, I think anywhere from 700-1000 is about what I would expect...Maybe call another company or two just to compare?

I have tried to get a competitive quote but since it's a rural area there are not really any competitors.

Which begs the question what advice am I looking for?  I think I just want to guage what other people are spending so I don't feel like I am getting ripped off.

Hang in there Erin!  How many people are you trying to move?  Do you need a full-size bus?  Would one or two smaller busses be cheaper.  My guess is that the quote you got is sort of right on target, but you could always check in similar locales to see if you get similar quotes (even if you are not planning on using them).

How about a school bus instead of a charter bus? A friend of mine did that and while I don't know exactly what they ended up paying, it was DEFINITELY not 1K as that would have eaten up a tone of her whole budget. I don't know how that works, though, but I'm going to look into it for myself since my ceremony and reception site is the next town over from Mystic, where all the hotels are.

Good point Mrs. DG - one thing is that we aren't too sure about how many people we'll be busing (not everyone has booked hotels since our invites only went out about a week ago).  I am guessing around 50.  I looked into a smaller shuttle service (about 20 people) and it would cost like 350.  So I suppose I could do 2 small ones in the event that around 40 people are staying at the other hotel.

I hate to say it, but that price is normal for around my parts, too.  You know if the event was something other than a wedding it would probably be cheaper, lol.

I wish I told them it was to transport the elderly to a 60 year class reunion...wonder what the quote would have been, then.  Tongue out

The bus I booked has the capacity for 50 ppl and the quote I got is $175/hr, time starts when the the bus leaves the garage. The place our guests are staying is roughly 25 min each way from the ceremony/reception site. The estimate turns out to be like $680.

@Erindesmar- LOL. It does seem that people tend to upcharge when they find out it's something wedding-related.
