We're definitely going to have cab numbers on hand -- but we also have two hotel room blocks reserved walking distance from our reception location.
I'm torn on this. We're waiting to see how other budget areas work out (ours is tight too) because I'd liek to get some kind of drunk shuttle back to the hotel for people, but then in the morning they'd have to get themselves back to pick up their cars... ah. I've been bouncing around the logistics of this in my head for awhile now and I don't have any good solution. We might just have cab numbers on hand for people. But if we end up having the money, I'd like to be able to provide some level of transportation. Like you, our reception location is about 10-15 min from the nearest hotel. I'm interested to see what people have done or are planning.
That's one of the main reasons we decided to have our reception at a place that also has rooms... we didn't want to worry about guests drinking & driving, or find room in our limited budget to pay for a shuttle. :( As a guest I know I'd appreciate a shuttle of some sort - it would be convenient especially if you have a lot of guests staying at the same hotel. If a bus for x-hours isn't in the budget you could speak to a local cab company in advance and request mini-van or larger cabs and pile as many guests in as can fit!
You can also pre-plan by asking guests when they RSVP if they want to take the shuttle... and don't forget to consider will you provide the shuttle to the reception as well? Otherwise guests will have to drive there and figure out a way to get their cars the next day.
Yeah, our ceremony and reception are going to be at the same site....so if we do decide to spring for transportation, then we would have rides available to the ceremony as well. I don't know...I'm just really torn. I want to be a good hostess, but I think people should be able to be responsible....and I just don't think I'll be able to swing it budget wise. I will definitely make sure to have cab numbers available...that's a great idea! Never realized how much goes into planning a wedding!!! :) It's such a labor of love!!

Just wondering if any of you are planning on providing transportation back to guests' hotels after the reception is over. Unfortunately the closest hotels to our wedding venue are at least fifteen minutes away. I hate the thought of anyone driving back to the hotel tipsy (or worse!). We've talked about maybe renting a "drunk bus" to shuttle people back to their hotel after, but our budget is pretty tight. Should I just trust people to be responsible?? I'm mostly worried about some of our friends, many who are members of the wedding party. What is everone else doing for transportation? Any thoughts??
