- Wedding: August 2013
My dress has a dupioni skirt and a beaded top. On the advice of many resources, I’ve been storing it lying flat under my bed so the beading won’t droop on the Big Day.
This has been a bit rough on the crinolyn under the skirt and the skirt itself is wrinkled. My plan is to take it somewhere to be pressed the week before the wedding, then hang it up to keep the skirt from wrinkling. Dupioni is VERY prone to wrinkling. I googled around to see if there was some sort of spray or otherwise that I could apply that would help prevent it but didn’t come up with very much at all. I’ll put the dress on as late as I can get away with (I’m getting married on a boat, so this is tricky) and keep standing up until after the ceremony, after which I won’t care about the skirt getting wrinkled.
I’m really pretty worried about it regardless. The dress has to survive the car ride to the venue, which is certainly not guaranteed unless I rent a Sprinter van (NOT in the budget!). I watched a YouTube about a time-consuming, tedious process for ironing wrinkles out of dupioni silk and feel quite discouraged.
Any brides with any experience out there for keeping a dress in shape? I was hoping I could spray it with something that would make it more wrinkle-resistent. I know I can’t steam it while wearing it.
