- Wedding: October 2013
So my husband’s family is from a mediterranean country though he was born and raised here. It’s been very important to him for years that we travel to this country for a brief holiday (1-2 weeks) so he can reconnect, experience it and see his grandparents before they die (they have been living in hospice care for a couple years). Since it is so important to him, I want to make sure it happens before we have kids. We had initially agreed on going in the months after our wedding, but finances and available vacation days from work made that impossible. We had settled on going in early April 2015 (the first 10 days), when the weather will be fair but the country won’t be insane with tourists.
At the same time, we had discussed starting to TTC at the time of our first anniversary, in mid-October. Since I didn’t want to be almost 6 months pregnant when travelling if we managed to conceive on the first try, we decided to put off TTC until mid-to-late November.
Today I spoke with my supervisor who said I was not allowed to travel from early March to mid-April due to work deadlines. I was devastated, especially since this rule apparently and unfairly only applies to me (but that’s a whole other issue).
So what should I do? I can’t stop obsessing about it. I know it’s still pretty far off but…? Should we stick to our plan of TTC in November and go in late-February (much poorer weather) if we conceive early? Should we put off TTC until January/February to ensure that we can go at the end of April?
Maybe just tell me how you would play this? I’m at a loss.
