It’s an hour from the church to reception?

Travel to the venue hosting the event is totally acceptable at an hour away. Between wedding and reception, well, I’d expect to lose a lot of guests.

I wouldn’t want to travel an hour away, but depending on the amount of guests you have and also your budget, maybe you want to consider chartering a bus for them? My company did something like this for a Christmas party we were hosting for an out of town company. It worked well because the guests didn’t have to worry about finding the address since they weren’t familiar with the area. It was around $500 to rent the bus.

I think the rule of thumb is no more than a half hour or so between ceremony and reception venue.  I had a similar situation when I was looking for an outdoor ceremony venue, since our reception space was already set (free access to the brewery tasting room where my mom works). My favorite ceremony spot was an hour from the reception venue, so se chose a second-choice ceremony venue because it’s just too inconvenient to ask our guests to drive that far.  In the end, guests will drive 25 minutes from the ceremony to reception, and I honestly wish it wasn’t even that far.

I would put a premium on your guests’ convenience in this case, but it’s of course up to you!  I did a lot of research on this when I was in your position, so just wanted to pass along what I read.  In the end, I’m thrilled with our second choice! 🙂

I would not be a happy guest if the reception venue was an hour’s drive from the church.

I wouldnt be too happy about an hour drive as a guest…especially if it ended up being like an hour and half from my house…wouldnt want to drive all the way home after the wedding.

I would be super pissed if the reception site was an hour away from the ceremony site. I might not even go unless it was someone super important to me.

An hour to the church is ok. An hour drive from church to reception not so ok, especially if it means a 2 hour drive back home.

I would attend the ceremony but likely not reception. An hour away seems like a long drive to me.
