I grew up in the bay, and you MUST go to a resturant called The Stinking Rose. Well... go if you LOVE garlic anyway, everything on the menu is made with garlic! The place has been fetured in a few foodie mags/ tv shows. Across the street (if its still there) is an Italian resturant called The Steps of Rome. Its a owned and operiated by a family of hot Italian guys- every girls night out started there LOL- great wine, food, and the tarimisu is to DIE for!!!
Ohhh thanks for this post! We are actually thinking about going to SanFran next month & I would love to hear the suggestions as well!
@JessieK - I'll look those up and put them on our list of things to do! Thank you!
To get to the Palace of Fine Arts by public transit, you'll have to take the Muni buses. You can look up sfmta.com for routes. schedules and fares.
I don't know too much about the Cow Hollow area but there are Muni buses/trains that'll take you all over the City. You can check with your hotel for more info.

Bees! We are planning a trip to San Fran and I'm so excited! But I have no idea where to start so I need your help!
The point of the trip is actually a race at Mazda Raceway Leguna Seca down outside of Salinas (but I'm sure you Locals knew that already!). But I want to stay in San Fran because I've never been.
This is the plan so far... We arrive later on Friday night (after driving down from Portland) spending Saturday in town and then driving down to the racetrack before the race on Sunday.
The one thing that I for sure want to see is The Palace of Fine Arts over by the Golden gate. So where should we stay? I'd like to be as close to public transportation as possible but from looking at google maps, the BART doesn't seem to go near the Palace.
What neighborhood should we stay in? I'm thinking the Cow Hollow area looks centrally located but what's the public transportation like around there?
Thanks in advance!
