jessica.zelenka: there are lots of great garment bags — I really like tumi. You can always steam it out at your destination.

I carried mine on in a garment bag. They hung it for me in the closet. Everyone was very excited to see a wedding dress 🙂

one word of warning, if you’re wedding is in the Caribbean, almost every flight has multiple brides With dresses. Space is limited. You may have to put it in an overhead bin and fold it.

The planes I flew on didn’t have a closet so my dress went on top of the carry on luggage. People were pretty outraged for me but my dress was fine. i just hung it at the resort until the wedding and it was fine.  On the way back I didn’t care.

I flew 6 hours plus 4 hours each way.

jessica.zelenka:  I bought this garment bag for my overseas destination wedding: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B002B0CR0S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It was very spacious (also packed three suits for my husband and his groomsmen), and the bridal shop where I bought my dress was impressed with how small it folded. On the stewardesses recommendation, I just left it folded and put it in the overhead bin like normal carry-on luggage. Then I had it steamed when we arrived at our wedding destination. It worked perfectly.
