This is probably a dumb question...but let me ask anyway...

So the wedding, I'll be attending is in MA and I'm in CA and I'd like to minimize as much luggage as possible. (with the new air restrictions and all) Ideally, since I have to change planes, I'd like to have just a carry-on and perhaps a garment bag. I don't want to check any of it in should anything go horrifically wrong and I lose my luggage and/or the dress) and I don't want to appear "clumsy" (with too much stuff) going through security.

     What do you think?

     Thanks in advance.

I was a maid for a wedding recently and had to fly on one of those small planes!  I had a duffle bag and a suit bag with my dress.  It was cumbersome for me but worth it to know I had everything with me the whole trip!  (I had a purse too but stuffed that in the duffle to be within the 2 bag carry-on limit.)

For carry on items you are limited to one bag plus a personal item (purse, laptop case, briefcase, backpack, etc). So you would not be able to carry on both a small suitcase and a garment bag, just one or the other. I would take a small suitcase to carry on with you and your purse, nothing else. To minimize wrinkling, lay it flat with several other pieces of clothing you are bringing on top and roll all of that up. The roll will make many fewer creases than folding. Even if you do decide to check a suitcase, though, I would bring your dress with you in a smaller bag, just in case.

I haven't checked a bag for years, so it's not unheard of to carry it all on. Garment bags are usually too big to carry on though.

Do you have a way to get the dress unwrinkled once you're there (does the bride have a steamer that you could use)?
