I think doing your make-up trial for your engagement pics is a great idea.  This way, you’ll get to see how you like the look in photographs AND see how the makeup wears throughout the day.

I scheduled my trial about 6 weeks before the wedding.  I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted (and was working with a makeup artist who had been referred to me by a good friend), so I thought that was enough time for me.

I think it’s a good idea, too!

You will need a little more blush than you probably feel comfortable with for the pics to come out right.  (I’ve studied photography.)

The only thing I’d be concerned about is whether you’ll be happy with the makeup after the trial. I really hated my hair and makeup trial and I know that has happened to a few bees too. (Have makeup remover and some DIY tools just in case?) Also, some makeup artists take the “trial” part seriously and do both eyes differently so you can choose, etc. You probably would like to have matching eyes for the engagement pictures, so consult first with your MUA to make sure she knows that you’ll be photographing the results!

I agree with cheerful – make sure that you give yourself enough time between the two in the event that you’re not happy. That was you can redo your make-up and be happy with the pictures!
