It varies by community here in the US and you can typically find start/end times online.

For us it was 5:00-8:00 EST.

Where I live now is so different than where we used to be.  Kids  start coming by around 7 PM and it’s 90%  over an hour later.  We used to live in a community where the little kids started right after school in the late afternoon and it went on from there pretty consistently until 9 PM.

I saw people out in our neighborhood at 5:30pm while I was driving home to work. Regardless of what community time are, I think that is way too early. People aren’t home from work or done eating dinner by then! We didn’t turn on our light until 6 or 6:30.

Is there a Halloween version of the Grinch? If so, that would be me. I wasn’t even going to pass out candy this year but DH unexpectedly got the night off, so he was put in charge of it.

Our first one was at 6, which I thought was on the early side. Last year our last one was at 10. I remember getting them up until 11:30 though in our last neighborhood.

@AB Bride:  it is! But I think that was a few years ago when it fell on a weekend. If that happened tonight I’d be pretty peeved. I get up for work at 4am!

@AB Bride:  You’re more generous than I am.  I get irritated anything after 9 because I want to start winding down for bed.  We usually kill the lights around 9:15, so I’m not sure how late they stay out but we start getting them around 6:30ish.
