So after writing a few threads on waxing and being on the fence of trying to book a session, I thought I’d try one of those home bikini wax kits you can get in the drug store. My thought was to see what the experience would feel like and that I’d be able to control the pain and stop if i decided to chicken out.
It hurt sooooo bad. Could mainly be because I don’t know how to do it. Or could just be waxing hurts. But at one point I was tearing and my eyes hurt from having to sqint in the mirror I got a headache.
<The following could be TMI> the first try was the most successful coz I didn’t know how much it would hurt, I just pulled. After I knew it hurt then I got nervous and made things worse. The worse was when the wax entered into the “brazilian zone” and I left the wax on too long (obviosly I was doing it too slow the wax in the jar was also hardening and coming off uneven) it was impossible to get off in and kind of broke off into many small pieces off hard wax on my skin (with hair in it of course). Cleaning the wax off was soooo painful and took forever (imagine trying to roll the wax that got stuck off). It was just messy and not worth the results. Now I am so terrified of waxing I probably will never make it to a salon.
Sorry for Too Much Information. Just needed to whine, I feel stupid and in pain (whine whine)

Yeah … you would have been way better off to get an experienced waxer at a salon – doing it yourself when you are all anxious, and not using the best of materials is about 100% more painful.

Yeah I’ve had terrible experiences at home…Darling Husband pulled off a strip once and left a BRUISE!!! Owwww. If you still want the whole waxed feel…go to a salon, trim beforehand (long hair = OWWWW), maybe take a tylenol, and don’t go the week before your period. I feel your pain!!!

I don’t ever want to get waxing done because I have heard from word of mouth that it hurts like hell. I have definitely heard some horror stories, but I always think back to the 40 year old virgin movie, and no thank you, lol. Just my opinion, but I would rather shave.

With home waxing…it is better to just bite the bullet and pull that strip off hard and fast! If you get nervous and “half pull” it ends up being more painful, you get more bruises, and then you STILL have to get all the wax and such off. So not worth all that pain! It is better if someone else does it (even if that someone else is your friend/sister/FI at your house).

@ms mini, @mountain,lesson learned. Not having the best angle really sucks too. I’m a bit glad to hear that in a salon it would have been better.
@iceprincess, I’m sticking to shaving as well!
@dance, I agree. The first rip was painful but when the wax got stuck it was beyond painful! Like pulling glue out of the most sensitive area possible. EEK!

Ouch! I did this my freshman year of college with my dorm room. We started with the legs which were *OK*. Then we more privately did our bikini area, I will NEVER do it again. I did one strip and I broke a blood vessel or something underneath the skin, it looked really bad for a couple days. My Fiance, then Boyfriend or Best Friend wondered why on earth I would do that to myself…thank god he doesn’t care about that!

HI! You know the whole brazilian thing, if you have never tried it before can be kind of painful. I agree on that. I ended up buying a No-NO off the shopping network. I’m older and have the blonde facial hair starting. And I’m a natural dark brunette. Works great. I use that instead of a lip wax so I’m not tugging at my lip and creating deep wrinkles. There are 3 levels of heat. Start with the low, though your skin may be sensitive. I also use it on my legs. This is something that, like a laser is not a one shot deal. Over the course of 8 months or so it should do what you are looking for. I do mine 3x a week. Just don’t use it over a broken out or sore area. Let it heal completely. Skin is in layers. Let it heal first.

I still remember the first and last time I tried waxing at home. I did my bikini line. I took off the one side and screamed bloody murder. Man it took me some time before I got the nerve up to do the other side. LOL
I won’t even tweeze my eyebrows – it hurts and I will go only so far for beauty!

I had the same exact thing happen! It’s much better going to the salon! It hurts but not as bad and much quicker and cleaner.

ME TOO! Oh my word — it was awful. I bled, bruised, and was in SO much pain!! I stick to shaving, although someday I kinda sorta want to get a brazillian… but I’m just a little nervous having someone besides my gyno poking around down there….

Hi ladies! Thanks for your posts. Looking back my experience was kind of funny.
To my surprise though, about a week later after my failed waxing attempt I just booked a session at Bliss for a bikini wax. I was so scared and wanted to chicken out but didn’t want to pay the cancelation penalty so just went. I tried buying the numbing cream. However it wasn’t really necessary.
Turns out it DID NOT hurt at all!! I even got a Brazilian without knowing what was going on. The lady was awesome!! It could be because my hair is finer and I don’t have much hair ahem “down there” but I’m a fan and will surely do this again:)

Salon is better than at home, definitely.

WHen applying the wax you have to apply in the direction of hair growth and remove the opposite direction~ and it’s also crucial to pull taut~ @[email protected] without doing those things, it could mean lifted skin, or bruising~ !
if you watch a salon professional do it enough, perhaps you can switch to doing it at home but…i still wouldn’t recommend it because it’s hard to see what you are doing yourself down there!
