- Wedding: May 2014
Hoping that other bees will have opinions (especially bees who have tried on these dresses) or that the act of writing this out will help me decide….
I think I’ve narrowed it down to 2 dresses: Essense of Australia D1446 and Watters Gloria. Sorry I don’t have photos of me in them- the stores didn’t allow photos. I’m on the shorter side, street size 4 (have some jiggle round the middle but hoping to lose it and get back down to a 2 by the wedding), and I liked how both dresses looked on me. Weather permitting, our ceremony will be outside on a lawn, photos outside, reception indoors in a tent and “manor” house, campfire after party in the woods.
Essense of Australia D1446
The sample didn’t have a shiny skirt like the photos show, and it didn’t have those creases in the front of the skirt (though maybe it would have if the sample hadn’t been too long for me?).
Pros: big skirt (I want to have presence but don’t want a blingy dress); I think it has a classic, romantic look; the bodice gives me a great shape; flats will look cute with it; may be able to pay for custom hollow to hem to reduce cost of alterations
Cons: eyelash lace on the bodice (not a fan, consultant seemed doubtful that anything could be done about it but she isn’t a seamstress); seems plainer than the Gloria (not interested in adding anything to the dress); creases in skirt?
The dress looks washed out in these photos, and I wish the model weren’t slouching
Pros: gorgeous multidimensional skirt made up of layers of tulle with lace appliques and a lace layer, and I feel like the dress has more visual interest overall than the Essense. I couldn’t tell in the too-big sample, but on the model the dress is more form-fitting than the Essense, which Fiance would probably like.
Cons: bodice seems less forgiving than the Essense bodice (I’m hoping to lose weight but would like to be able to count on my dress to make me feel beautiful); less of a classic look than the Essense; worried about bugs and debris getting caught in the tulle; worried about the bustle looking pretty and holding up; skirt not as poofy as I would like (could possibly add poof with crinoline, but would the dress look weird?); worried that the lace will be washed out in our photos like it is in the model photos; worried that alterations will be $$$ due to multiple layers of fabric
If you’ve made it through this novel, then you are a trooper.
