Anyone else obsessed with this show?  I'm currently bracing myself for an argument with my fiance - we usually watch it with his brother and sister-in-law, but they haven't been able to make it over for the last month.  I just can't wait that long to watch my favorite show, despite my FI's requests to wait.  I watched two new episodes tonight while he was DJing at the bar he manages.  Yeah, I'm going to be in trouble.

However, the two new episodes that I watched were AMAZING!  What are your theories about Mary Anne?  I used to think that she was some sort of Bacchanalia practicer, but this weeks episode... well, I don't know.  I also don't want to give anything away in case anyone isn't caught up.  I'm also really liking Jessica's development.

Anyhoodle, what are your thoughts on True Blood?

    I love this show too!

Thanks for not spilling the beans, I haven't seen yesterday's episode.  Mr. K is out of town so I am going to TRY to wait until Friday when he gets back!  We have no idea about Mary Anne, except that she is some kind of witch.  What is Bacchanalia?

Lafeyette is my favorite character.  He's so sassy!

A Bacchanalia is a ritual that ancient Romans practiced.  Not very much is known about it, exept for that literature portrays it as a very sexual, animalistic, uninhibited, and drunken ritual.  If you read Euripides' Bacchanalia, you'll get a good idea of just how crazy they are alleged to be.

And I love Lafeyette, too.  :-)

Who do you think the cutest guy is?  I got in a debate with some friends over this, they thought Bill.  I said he's too pasty and old and countered with Eric or Jason (I love blondes ).  They said I was gross, that Jason is too "frat boy."  But we all could agree that Sam was cute.

@ mrsbee--i've read all of the sookie stackhouse books, FYI the books and the series are SO different. i read the books first and then saw the series and was shocked at the difference. but i enjoy both the books and the series. the series is a little more hardcore than the books, which are like vampire romance novels.

@MissKitten:  Even if Jason is a little bit "frat boy" looking, I go a little googly-eyed whenever he's not wearing a shirt.  So I'd have to agree with you about him.  I thought that Rene was sssssmoking hot, though!

Oooo, I love this show! I only read the first book in the series and that was after I saw the first season of the TV show. I have to say, I like the show a lot better than the books.

I think Jason is absolutely hysterical but he's been clothed far too much so far this season. True Blood : wedding Icon Razz

I'm guessing Mary Anne is some kind of combo between a maenad and Circe...it will be interesting to see how old she really is!

Maenads were the female followers of Dionysus, they get pretty rowdy!

Love True Blood!  I loved shows like X-Files and 6 Feet Under; I like the interesting characters and the mild degree of tension/anxiety I experience while watching... never quite sure what's going to happen next!

I've heard that Maryanne is a maenad, which explains a few things, but NOT why she seems to be obsessed with Tara.

And for the good stuff: I enjoy Eric (authority figure) and Bill (romantic).  And of course, Sam is a sweetie and cutie.  Jason and Lafayette don't really do it for me, but I'm liking their character progressions.

Oh, and we LOVE the intro song.  Love it.  Trying to find a way to incoporate into the wedding, maybe during the cocktail or dinner.

Heh - It's funny that I had never heard of maenads, since early in this thread I was talking about bacchae, which are just the Roman version of the same thing.

I love the True Blood series... though I think I love the Sookie Stackhouse books even more.  I've read them all and they're absolutely awesome.  They are definitely different from True Blood though, just as latoya said.

I'm going to keep mum on Maryann because I have a good idea of what she is given the books.  But for the people that can't get enough of the tv series, I think you'd probably like the books a lot too

I read the first book and while it's very different from the tv show I liked them both. I love True Blood! I record it and then watch it promptly that day! I feel slightly obsessed. I totally think Eric is the hottest and he has the funniest lines!

Love, love, love the show!  I was starting to suspect that Mary Anne was what the last show teased us with.  I love all of the different characters story lines and can't wait to see how they all connect.

FH is obsessed with the show. I love Sookie's character, its awesome. Jessica is something else as well. Seriously, what's up with the intro - creepy but it goes well with the show. Anyways, I would love to buy the books for him as he is a avid reader ( got him a kindle for his bday)

Maryann is some sort of witch or something - she's really creepy. I love how Sookie reads minds and stuff - we saw an the episode last night where she runs into another guy that can read minds as well.....FH & I both looked at each other & thought, how crazy of a relationship would that be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, well at least they would be really honest with each other since they cant hide there thoughts! LOL!

Um how have I not seen that there is a True Blood thread on here?!?!?! I love this show. And word up to the poster who said that Rene was the hottest thing on that show. that accent (fake as it was) was to die for. I kind of have a Sam crush, and also Jason Stackhouse needs to never, ever wear a shirt. Hoyt is adorable too. Damn come to think of it there are a LOT of good looking men on that show!

Marianne intrigues me. I won't say anything more in case people aren't caught up from last Sunday's episode but, um, WTF! I can't wait to see what happens next.

I should really, REALLY be reading the books right now.  That would satiate my True Blood cravings for the six days out of the week that it's not on tv.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Bill hasn't met Mary Anne yet, has he?  In fact, I can't think of a time that she has been around a vampire at all.  I wonder how that interaction would go...

Sooo... any new thoughts after last night's episode?  I found it absolutely hilarious that Maryann took off all of her makeup and dressed like Gran to regain Tara's affection.  Also, I think that the conversation between Jessica and Hoyt is going to lead to some troulbe, as harmless as it seemed:  The cell phone that she was talking on belonged to the man sent to capture Sookie the week before.  Uh oh!

@Lexatron: I didn't notice the phone thing! Good thing I rewatch the episodes on demand during the week to fix my True Blood craving! What is the distinguishing feature that makes it the same phone? I want to know what to look for.

And this may be obvious to some but I couldn't tell exactly - was the random hallway woman at the end Bill's MAKER? I couldn't for the life of me figure out why they would have shown that clip in the "Previously on True Blood" part until the end, and even then I was like wait am I insane or is that that woman?

@Kittyachi:  I guess I'm just assuming that the phone is the one that she took from that guy - a few episodes ago (or maybe last season?), Jessica asked Bill if she could have a cell phone, and he said no.  Then when Bill taught her how to glamour people, she ordered the driver sent to get Sookie to give her his phone.

And yeah - it took me awhile to figure out that that woman was his maker, too!  At first I thought it was the vampire who was at Godrik's house earlier in the episode.  Did you see the previews for next week when Bill's maker is biting him??  It seems crazy to me that vampires can drink eachother's blood!

Oh, and I'm sure that I'll be watching it one or two more times this week, too!  One hour a week is just not enough!

OH!! Also - last episode - when Sookie telepathically talks to Barry and he goes and tells Bill where she is - Barry is saying back to Sookie that it's the last favor he's going to do for her, then an arm reaches out a door and grabs him... am I the only one that didn't catch it - but WHO was that???

I love TB too!!! I don't want to read the books though because it might give away what's going to happen in the show, and I love the suspense of the show. My FI and I watch it every Sunday.  Almost all the TV we watch now is HBO/Showtime. The shows are so much better than network TV. Granted, once Sept comes around, I'll be glued to Desperate Housewives and other big shows, but they just aren't as good.

@Laylabelle:  I was assuming that it was Lorena who grabbed Barry.  Maybe she's hungry?  I don't know - I'm sure the writer's have come up with something more interesting than that.

@Palm Tree:  I love them too!  They are so freaking adorable.
