Hi Bees, it seems that miscarriages are an all too common on these boards. Several of my friends have suffered miscarriages (one or more) at different points in their pregnancies, but I would never ask them this question since it’s just for my own curiousity. How long after a miscarriage do doctors recommend waiting to start trying again? What are the reasons if there is a waiting period?

2-3 months is the standard. This is so your body has a chance to get back on track, as well as allow for emotional healing. Some women only wait one cycle, though. I think at least 2 is best.

@asdf: I’ve heard/read conflicting reports. If it’s a VERY early miscarriage, it depends on the dr. I’ve read on some forums where the ladies were told to go ahead after the first cycle and others to wait 2-3 months.
We waited a month or two before trying again, but that was OUR choice, not from a dr.

I agree it depends on how early the miscarriage happens. You are often very fertile in your first cycle after an early miscarriage, and Drs will clear you trying. If the misscarriage is further along and requires more extensive procedures or delivery, you’d need to wait longer for your body to stabilize/heal.
