Hi there! I live in Singapore and experienced the same size issue. It’s very hot & humid here but most shops luckily have Airconditioning. But as far as the size issue goes, yes if I were you I would wear something like spanx to try on dresses. they may not feel super cool, but I think they’ll help to let the fabric slide on and off easier than it would on (sweaty) skin.

Also it might help you squeeze into that size 4 to get an idea of what the dress looks like. I got very selfconscious because of the sizes, but my advice would be don’t be! I was surprised how they were able to put me in some of them, you need good shop assistants who aren’t afraid to use a bit of force (at one point I had two ladies pulling and tugging to get me in the dresses!). Dresses with a tighter fitting silhouette on the hips can pose a real problem, but hopefully for most other gowns they should be able to just hold it up for you without closing the back.

Good luck and have fun!! 🙂

I live in hot and humid weather and wore some sort of spanx when trying on dresses – a wholepiece, I dont know exactly what its called but its like a shorts and runs up to my waist.  It actually did not bother me in 35deg celcius and I plan to wear one for my wedding (which will also hopefully be in hot and humid weather with no wind coz its going to be outside)..maybe not with shorts though.

I also have the Spanx that go up to your bra basically and end just above the knee, I think that should be enough to fit you into mermaid styles. the waist, hips, thighs were the biggest issue for me And those are all covered in the Spanx. I’ve never tried the nylons, you could always bring a pair just in case.

I would say don’t be emberrassed about them having to stuff you in, that’s their job and it may bring them a sale! Some shops’ staff here also sort of gave up in advance by looking at me, while other’s weren’t phased by it at all. (I ended up getting stuck in a dress where she literally had to pull the dress off over my head inch by inch very carefully while I was standing there with my hands up and without a bra on… The lady there thankfuy was very nice about it.) Hope you’ll be able to get a good shop assistant despite the language barrier, in my experience they can make a big difference in how confident I felt and how many dresses I was able to try.

Size 4 mermaid dresses should be doable, you may have your butt sticking out at the back like a hospital gown, but that’s ok 🙂
