Now that my dress arrived and it is in my closet- I can't stop trying it on.

I swear some of the beadwork seems a little looser and the bottom of the dress is getting dirty! lol...oops.

Do others have a hard time not trying it on relatively often? Should I really stop doing this? Or at least limit it to once a month?

I would try and limit yourself so it doesn't get too dirty or ruined. I left mine at my sisters so I couldn't try it on all the time.. but then I found excuses to go over and try it on.. haha

@Elarissa: :) Yeah I feel like I better be careful. I think once a month may be good to gauge how it is fitting  (im losing weight each month)

You know how store samples start fitting looser than the actual dress should and get a little dingy and shabby looking? That's what's going to happen to your dress! You have 7 months left, you gotta leave it alooooone!

I'm going to have this issue. Once it comes in, there is no where but my closet for it. FI is over a lot and so keeping him away will be hard too.

i have my reception dress here and i AAAAALWAYS want to put it on and flounce around, but limit it to when i'm trying it with something else, like potential wedding shoes (which i've had a lot of!). my wedding dress is being held at the salon i bought it at (walking distance from my house) but i haven't tried it on again since i first bought it. >_<

hahaha mine hasn't come in yet, but I'm scared I'm going to do this too. At the very least, I'll unzip the back and look at it every day. I might have to leave mine at my parents' house to avoid the temptation.

I am the exact opposite, I dont want to try anything on for fear of making it dirty.. I dont even want to bring the dress home from the salon until the 2 days before...

This is why I haven't ordered a dress yet. I don't want it here to soon where I will mess with it every day!

Yep, I've tried mine on a couple times and consequently got cat hair on it.

    Yes.

    Cat hair.

    On my wedding dress.

I'm not really freaked too much about this, since that isn't my style, but I'm sure the seamstress will raise an eye.  It's not too bad, and I'm gonna take a good 'ole fashioned lint roller to it to get it out.

But let this be a lesson to you.  Leave the dress alooooooone!!!!

I left my dress at my mom's house. I would look at it every time I went over, but didn't try it on b/c I was scared I would ruin it.

@Evie19: You need to step away from the dress lol. Yes limit yourself or put it away and not try it on again until alterations time.

I've had my dress sitting in my closet since winter and I've tried it on a few times, but I try to limit myself to once every few months. I'm not actively trying to lose weight and I hope that I'm maintaining but I'm not always as careful as I should be about what I eat, so...  I mainly try my dress on to make sure it still fits.

@bells: I'm the same way! We picked mine up and it's a few hours away at my FILs...I was too scared to even take it out of the plastic! I know I need to try it on but I'm nervous it will get dirty or I'll mess something up.

That's why I got mine two weeks before the wedding and no sooner *LoL* - I'm obsessed with "Is it gonna fit today!???" - I won't let myself try it on any more. Two days before the wedding and that'll be the last time before the wedding...

    Maybe...

Probably not... >_> *Sigh* I have no will power. I think I'm gonna go try it on!

Okay, so take it from me, I've had no self control, and I'm perfectly happy doing it.  Yeah, some little things might happen, but I'm happy doing it and I know very well what might happen to my dress.  :)  So yeah, I know I should leave it alone, but I don't really care!!

Ok you guys have effectively scared me from trying it on too much!

When my veil comes in next week I have to try them on together to see if the length with the train works, but then after that I will stop myself somehow!!

    :)

i think about doing it all the time, but it has a built in corset that i can't manage on my own, so effectively i wouldn't even be able to truly see the fit, so i just don't try it on :(

When I first brought my dress home I wanted to try it on all the time.  Fortunately it takes an extra person to help me put it on since it has a lace up back.  I couldn't help wanting to show it to all my bridesmaids that didn't go shopping with me though so I've pulled it out of the garment bag a few times...

hahahaha! This is a very funny post -- love the cat hair reference! I pulled mine from behind the door several times but couldn't actually put it on right because of the boning and corsetted top so I gave up trying.  But I unzipped the garment bag constantly when I was home and oohed and aahed to myself! I finally got it out to my Mom's - including because we have a dog and cat and I figured it the wedding dress would start to smell like a kennel!

I tried mine on once a month before the wedding because I was nervous that it wouldn't fit.  It's so fun now after the wedding because I put it on as much as I want without having to worry about it getting dirty.  The sad thing, though, is I gained weight and it doesn't zip all the way anymore  :(

haha, Evie, have you taken pics? Or are you also afraid your Fi will see them? :) My dress has been in my closet for 4month now, and I have not tried it on once- which is probably weird, but there is just so much material that I am scared I wont get it all in the bag again. ;)

Mine requires a corset inside, and has a corset back so its a two person operation.  I think the next time I try it on- it will be to take video so my attendant knows how the heck to get me in there....

@retreadbride: Like I said to another bride earlier, that is probably a blessing in disguise! I wish mine was super hard to get into!

That is a REALLY good idea to take video of the process

And to all those who need to bustle- take video or pics of that too!

I was trying on my dress every few days lol, but now that I am losing weight, I've vowed not to try it on again until my first fitting in September so I can marvel at how much looser the dress will be. :P

I don't have my dress at home yet, and I am planning on asking a girlfriend to house it for me so I don't try it on constantly & wreck it or get it dirty. With 3 pets and a 5 year old running around I would rather have it hanging in someone elses closet (in their pet+kid free apartment!)

Oh no! I'm happy my dress is safe at the dress shop now! But my veil is getting some abuse lately. I think I might have to find a box to put it in and not touch it! I hope your dress survives :D

@Evie19: haha nooo! unfortunately, mine doesn't come in until december *sad panda* - and even then - it stays at the boutique until the very last fitting...being 2 weeks before the wedding. and knowing my luck - the FI would probably walk in on me trying it on...hahahha :(
