My fiance and I have decided to elope, and we are very happy about this decision.  The costs of planning a traditional wedding were exceeding our tiny budget, so we feel this is a perfect decision for us.  We're going to leave the kids with the grandparents and just run off together, kind of like a joint vacation/wedding, lol.  So looking forward to this peace, relaxation, and romance!

    But where to go????

We've narrowed our choices down to these two:

    http://www.gastonian.com/cp/Specials-Elopements-Savannah-GA.htm

    http://www.berrysprings.com/weddings.html

Which do you prefer and why?  I'm hoping to get some great input from you bees to help me out with this major decision.  Thanks!

I should've mentioned that the venue in Savannah does NOT include photography, so that would run us at least $500 more.  I'm still leaning a tad bit more towards them because I love the overall look of the venue.  But my fiance has never been to the mountains up in Tennessee, and he seems a bit more excited with that choice.  This is going to be hard, lol!

I chose Savannah for these reasons:

    1. i would love to go to Savannah :)

    2. The Lodge in Tennessee is a great idea and also looks romantic. But this is a place i would totally connect with a snowy winter wedding

    3. The overall look of the Savannah venue is amazing, i LOVE it. And as you leave your kids with their grandparents, this is the perfect occasion to enjoy a very romantic and unique getaway

I suggest getting married in Savannah, and going on vacation in the mountains someday, with your kids, it might be a great adventure for them and your husband

Thanks for the speedy response, Usuki!  You make some compelling arguments, lol, and I tend to agree, but he keeps pushing the Tennessee lodge.  I think it has to do with the large pond that's fully stocked with bass just waiting for him to fish on, lol!

I wouldn't mind getting married next to a gorgeous mountain backdrop, and all the outdoor activities would be amazing to experience.  The frugal part of me says to go with this option because it's all-inclusive, and I wouldn't have to worry about coordinating any other vendors.  We've both been to Savannah numerous times before, so I can see why he'd be excited about going somewhere he's never been.  But the Gastonian is just so dang gorgeous (big shoutout to Loribeth who just got married there on 12/10)!!!!Smile

I am extremely biased because I ADORE rustic, outdoorsy and most of all cheap vacations ;D Plus, I live near Savannah so it doesn't have that pizazz for me

I'm not really an outdoors kind of gal, but I would LOVE waking up to a roaring fireplace against a backdrop of magnificent mountains!  But I want to go on a ghost tour in Savannah, too!  So far, most bees seem to prefer Savannah, but I'd love to hear more of your views, so keep 'em coming!

    @AudzinLuv:

hmm well if you're not really outdoorsy then I'd go with savannah. Nothings worse than being out in the wild when you hate the place XD plus, i hear the ghost tours are fab!

I like the Savannah, GA location. It looks a little more romantic, and there will be plenty of activities to do after the eloping!

Both look wonderful, but I voted for the Gastonian Inn. Even if it is more expensive, it sounds like the one that would make you happiest on your wedding day. It also has a more romantic feel to it. Save the other trip for maybe a 1 year anniversary or something fun!

Yay!  Thanks so much for your responses, bees!  I'm glad y'all are loving the Savannah location as much as I am, so now it's just a matter of convincing HIM, lol.

I vote for the mountains. I've been to Savannah and Gaitlinburg/Pigeon Forge, but I like the mountains the best in September. Leaves changing, etc. Just beautiful!

I've never been to Tennessee but several coworkers have eloped in Gatlinburg and had the most beautiful pictures! It looks so calm and serene, not to mention incredibly romantic! Good luck with your decision, I'm sure it'll be wonderful!

Ya know, I'm normally not that bad at making decisions, but this is very hard.....

Just when I think I've made up my mind (and fiance is of no help really because he says whatever I choose is perfect with him), the other venue reels me back in.  *sigh* Maybe the local courthouse will do.  I can't even imagine the stress decision-making would be if I was planning a traditional wedding.  My sympathies to you bees, lol.

The good news is they are both beautiful! My vote was for Savannah because of the other things you will be able to do there. Like a private carriage ride and the overall romance of the city. And imagine all of the beautiful photos you will get with the back drop of the city!

I also decided on a Destination Wedding after only a week of wedding planning! Enjoy your day, either way it will be fabulous!

@AudzinLuv:  Thanks for the shoutout!  I don't know how I missed this one!  Thanks for giving me a heads up about it.

Well, I absolutely LOVE the Gastonian, which shouldn't surprise you, so you know what I voted for.  However, I'm going to share something with you that will probably make your decision more difficult.  Hey! That's what friends are for, huh? LOL!

When DH and I were trying to decide where to get married, I emailed a lot of options to him--Hawaii, Vermont, Key West, Georgia... Anyway, the only one he really got excited about was Savannah. Neither of us had been there before, and he thought it would be interesting. My only requirement was that it be romantic, and since he was being so indulgent and generous with letting me have everything I dreamed of for our wedding, there was no way I could say no to him. I'm so glad that we went to Savannah, and more specifically The Gastonian. It was a dream wedding for both of us, exactly what we both wanted.
