and going out of my blessed mind over it! I really want a more simple yet dressy DRESS to wear if we decide to elope. I am talking under 200.00 if thats even possible? I just can't justify spending a small fortune on a dress I wear once and renting it will cost half of the dresses original value so 400.00+ depending on what I choose if I wanted a wedding gown.

I am in Ontario... will purchase online. Any suggestions?!

Check out bridesmaid dresses in white! A lot of them look like wedding gowns but don't cost like wedding gowns!

The best places to look are non-traditional stores.  If you go to a bridal store you are pretty much only going to find expensive gowns (especially if you are in a more remote town; where in Ontario are you located?).

I got my dress at BCBG and it was $500 with tax.  Have you tried The Bay?  Though, this is probably a bad time to look if you're wanting white.  Nordstrom's ships to Canada, there are some great dresses on there but keep in mind the exchange rate, shipping and customs (customs should be fairly minimal though).

Aria has inexpensive wedding dresses.  They even have a try on program where they ship the dress to your house for a small fee.  http://www.ariadress.com/WeddingDressesThumbnails.htm  You could definately get something for under $200.

Alfredo Angelo has a "recessionista" line that is supposed to have inexpensive dresses.  I also suggest looking for BM dresses in white or ivory.  Try Craiglist too or www.preownedweddingdresses.com or www.onewed.com.

    Good luck!

We eloped, and I bought my dress at White House|Black Market for just a hundred bucks. It was perfect as an elopement dress: gorgeous, simple and classy.

I just checked out their site... it doesn't look like they have a ton of white stuff at the moment. :-(  But have a look around - there might just be something you love.

I wasn't on a budget but I knew I didn't want to spend a lot on a dress that I'd wear just once. Plus, the style I wanted (high bateau neck, plain silk without detail) wasn't easy to find. I ordered my dress from Aria and I love it.

Altogether, including $20 for extra height (I'm a tall gal) and a little more for a nice waist sash, I paid $298. I got it in two months.

If you keep an eye on J.Crew they have some great dresses and usually have some awesome sales!! I don't know if you've thought about David's Bridal, but they usually have some great sales (I'm pretty sure the $99 gown sale is going on right now!)

Alfred Angelo also came up with a "Little WHITE Dress" Line...most are under $200...but most are also short.

I LOVE White House-Black Market!  Oh!  And BCBG outlets offer their dresses at 50-70% if there's one in your area...they have a great selection of white dresses.

hissswallow - I'm not sure where you are in Ontario but I got my dress for 180 at Gown Go Round, located in Newmarket. It's a resale and rental wedding dress shop so it might be hit or miss, but it's worth it especially if you wait for one of their sales.

Here's their website if you need it.
    http://gowngoround.com/

Also, I watch the Brides Project website from time to time and they have sales pretty often as well. It runs off donations and proceeds from sales here go towards cancer research, so you'd be helping a good cause.

    If you're interested.

Wow thanks everyone! I am not necessarily looking for white so that is a bonus. I am near Owen Sound Ontario so quite off the beaten path but used to having to travel everywhere so thats not a big deal. I am going to go and look at all the websites you recommended you're all fantastic!

I second Nordstrom.com. That's where I was originally going to buy my dress, until I found one on here in the classifieds that was new.

I'm wearing a $200 Calvin Klein dress from Nordstrom's to my (1st time) wedding this upcoming weekend.

Here's the link to Nordstrom's full collection. Good prices and flawless customer service.

I'm a fan of davids bridal sales page online... Theres quite a few in your price range in all different styles...

Also dhgate.com has some that are made internationally and quite cheap... I don't know if I'd personally order from there but it'd be worth looking into I guess..

GoodLuck in whatever you choose :)

Check out bravobride.com or preownedweddinggown.com.  IF you don't find anything there; check out local thrift stores or department stores, like Macy's, during Black Friday for some awesome deals (Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving and the first great sales of the holiday season in the US).

David's Bridal has $99 sales that go on year round.  Have you tried the classifieds on weddingbee because you may find a deal.  What size are you because I'm trying to sell my wedding dress.

I am a size 18 - but I think that my mom and I are going to be making my dress since she is a really good seamstress.

Because you're not set on white, I'd look on ETSY- there is a section they have where you're able to locate vendors close to you.

    Also ebay & david's bridal.

I'm sure you could also find some nice dresses on sale at a shop if you just pop in every few months.

I have been looking at http://www.lightinthebox.com/wholesale-Wedding-Dresses_c1181.  I found my dress for under $100.  The only drawback is that you can't try it on before you buy it.  But some do have reviews of the dress and they also have a return policy if you get it and it's not what you expected.

You might also want to check out PreownedWeddingDresses.com and OnceWed.  Both have used gowns, and often even new gowns that a bride had second thoughts about.

you should try david's bridal $100 gown sale thats where i got my first 2 dresses. They are usually the ones that are being discontinued or you can try craigslist.org, bravobride.com, preownedweddingdresses.com or oncewed.com if your ok with wearing a gown that has been worn by another bride. hope that helps

I wanted to second the J.Crew idea--and let you know that right now they're having a promotion for 20% off final sale items (but no returns--double check your measurements against their size chart before ordering!). There's one called Robin that you could get in ivory for exactly $200 after the discount, if they have it in your size... it's actually what I'll be wearing at my not-elopement wedding!

For the moment, I think I'm going to get a pretty bridesmaid dress from David's Bridal in Apple (their word for red). It's like $120.
