I know you mentioned Nordstrom - but did you check their website (which often has more than what you can find in the stores). I'm not good with the crayola box (lavender, purple, etc.) but I just went to shopNordstrom.com, Womens, Dress Shop, Cocktail dresses, and just asked for Purple ones... there were a lot.
We're having lavender. I know you said off the rack, but it might be hard sicne lavender is not exactly in fashion right now. Usually I've only seen blue, red, yellow, and splash of green these days. I actually liked some of the dessy dresses because they had more normal cuts. This one might be nice... http://www.dessy.com/dresses/bridesmaid/2721/?color=passion&colorid=219
Thanks for the suggestions. I actually saw this dress on Nordstroms website, but it's a little out of the price range for my bridesmaids. I went to the South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa and saw this dress everywhere. It's beautiful but a little pricey.
Thanks for sharing this website Cyshas. Have you purchased from here before. I always get nervous ordering clothese online, since the sizes vary so much. But I love the dress, perfect color.
Thanks to you both for your suggestions!!! ![]()
Just checked again, and the price for that dress that is pictured is $348!! Too rich for our blood.: )
Ok, this dress is EXTREMELY cheap, but so pretty!! I happened to come across it earlier today, and thought- this would be such a cute bridesmaids dress!
What's your budget Venuzlove? I bought the girls dresses from Dessy/After Six using RK Bridal and they were ~$100. And that "passion" color is beautiful in person (the dress we ended up picking had the sample in that color).
For aftersix/dessy, they can order from any of the local stores, or maybe try netbrides.com or rkbridal.com for cheaper on-line prices. Those are more reputable on-line retailers. They would just need to get themselves measured somewhere and order size based on their largest measurement. I just checked the price on houseofbrides.com and it's going for $135.
Hi Ashlop - Thanks for suggestion. I tried the link but the page came up "bad item" so I couldn't see the dress.
Emilie01 and Cyshas - I checked out Dessy dresses and have found a lot that I like. Since our wedding is in Hawaii, everyone is making the financial commitment to go over there so I'm trying to keep the dress price down. I would like them to spend no more than $150 for the dress. They'll still have to buy their shoes and other items so I think this is reasonable. I've found other dresses in this price range, but not in the right color.
I'm a little bit leary of buying dresses online... have you done this before?
Hey Cyshas!
It's so funny you put the link up for this Dessy dress. This is the same one I found and printed out! The local bridal shop in my area carries this dress, but it's out of our price range.
Emilie01 - Where did you buy your bridesmaid's dresses at? What store?
Hi Venuzlove - I used RK Bridal's "no frills" program (www.rkbridal.com) I faxed in an order to them - I think the dress I picked out was around $130 but I had Netbride quote me for $105. RK Bridal matches the cheapest price you can find plus gives you 5% off! My bridesmaids are scattered throughout the country, so I did have to pay for shipping, which was $14 per dress. They all got them early (like 2 months when they said 3!). I had a good experience with them.
I understand why you'd be wary of buying online! My MOH and I went to Macy's bridal salon and tried on a ton of different dresses - we both ended up loving that Dessy dress. Then I ordered some swatches from Dessy to see how the color I wanted looked in person. I think it worked out great, but it's hard to guess when you're not buying off the rack! Like I said, I loved that passion color - I almost changed my wedding colors because I loved it so much! Instead we went with my original choice, Clover. Good luck, and let me know if you have any other questions!
I originally wanted Lavendar bridesmaid dresses as well, but had very little luck finding them in the same price range you are looking for. I ended up going a few shades darker purple and found some at Nordstroms when they were having a sale.
If you are willing to do something a little different, I know that Sears, Penny's and Macys all have quite the selection of printed dresses right now, you might be able to find a fun sun dress that would work.
One last suggestion, talk to your bridesmaids. They might be willing to go to a higher price if they would be able to wear them again. I would be willing to spend more for a dress that I know I will wear again then spend on one I will only wear the one time.
Good luck!
Thanks Emilie01 and Fromms2mrs for both your suggestions. If I change the color of the dresses, everything else will need to change (flowers, invitations, etc.). This has been my favorite color ever since I was a little kid so it's kind of a sentimental color. As I'm typing I'm wearing a lavender shirt! : )
I will check out the website you suggested. Thanks to all!
I kept lavendar as my main color, even after darkening the dresses. I simply added a couple of dark purple accents in a few places - to tie them in, but they are still purple, and still look great with everything else!
Try Maggy London dresses either Nordstrom online or Nordstrom Rack. I just bought a perfect lavender rose chiffon Maggy London from Nordstrom Rack for a mix/match lavender wedding. There were a couple styles to choose from too! And....it was only $39!!!!
what was the most surprising place to find bridesmaid dresses is TARGET by designer isaac mizrahi. they have lavender and many styles - he does a whole bridal and BM line for them and very affordable. we have multiple dresses in my ceremony so my BMs are only wearing this "american" dress for an hour so i definitely did not want to buy a really expensive dress. =)
Hmm, I would never think of Target, but I'll check them out. I've found that Isaac Mizrahi's dresses are cut kind of big (box shaped) and aren't too slimming... but you never know, maybe he has something that might work.
I'll check out Nordstrom's this weekend and check out the Maggy London dresses. We're going BM dress shopping this weekend so I'll let you know what we find!
There are 2 for sale here: http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/clo/638619960.html
You could probably hem them to knee length, but the color and flowiness seems about right for what you wanted.
i got my bridesmaids Mori Lee dresses in a local nyc boutique. what's great about them is that they can pretty much make any of their dresses in any color!
i got my bridesmaids dresses at $125 each! email me at itsviolet@gmail.com ifyou want the vendor's info!
Thats snmcdowell and princess! I actually found a cute dress for my sister who is the matron of honor and a dress for the bridesmaids that flatters all of their different body types.
Trying to add a picture of the dresses but not sure if it worked. I'll try again if it didn't.
The first dress is the matron of honor dress and the second are the bridesmaids dresses.
This is the matron of honor dress but in Victorian Lilac. Same color as below. We bought it at Alfred Angelo for $135. We'll be putting spaghetti straps on it for her.
Above are the Bridesmaid Dresses. We found them at David's Bridal for $135 too! I'm happy, finally!
Continuing to post these pictures, not sure why they're not showing up?!
Let's see if this works...
If your bridesmaids are on the smaller side (no one over size 12) you can to to the Jessica McClintock factory store -- there is one in Montclair and I think there is one in Huntington Beach. I was at the montclair one today and there was LOTS of lavender dress that are knee length and VERY cute!
BTW - dress at the McClintock outlet run betwen $20.00 - $120.00. All of their Spring Dresses (yes, that means lavendar too) are on clearance for $20.00.
Hi Calioteach - I checked out Jessica McLintock and they do have some cute dresses. We found the dresses this weekend and I'm trying to post a picture, but for some reason it's not working.... :{
I've never been able to post pictures -- I just post them on my blog and then make a link.
I went custom for my dresses. I did violet. Thought- I'd never seen this color so, why don't I just do it? It was beautiful for an early fall wedding. If you don't have any brides in unusual sizes you should be able to get them off the rack. I had to have mine made though since one of my girls was a size 22 and one of my girls was only 4 foot 9.
GL!

Hi Everyone! This is my first time blogging and actually my first time on Weddingbee... I love this site! My dilemma is trying to find a lavendar, knee length dress for my bridesmaids. We're getting married in Oahu, Hawaii so I need a flowy, not stuffy dress. Instead of going to a bridal store I thought an off the rack dress would allow my girls to get more than one use of their dress (for what they're paying). With it being Spring time I figured a light, airy dress would be easy to find. Only deep purples are in stores right now and the only lavender dress I found at Nordstroms is long. Does anyone have any suggestions? Are your wedding colors in the purple family? Thanks! Veronica
