ashm:  I think you could easily blend all those ideas. If you keep the use of the train and “nerdy’ references subtle it will be like little surprises when they are discovered, rather than something hitting you in the face.

We were able to put a decent amount of my DH’s nerdiness into our reception, but it was all VERY subtle, like the lanterns we had out by parking had little figuines in them, it wasn’t in your face, but it was there, and really cool.

Also, people will be more than okay not getting favors, but a lot of people get miffed when you donate to a charity instead of favors, and then tell everyone.  Just donate to the charities on your own, please don’t call that your “favors” and let everyone know.

I am struggling with the same kind of issue. I think maybe you could have maybe train favir boxes? or starwars themed table names? You could even do a star wasrs themed cake?

My wedding theme is Cinderella, and i am trying to be as easy as i can about over doing it. Not too much in your face with the theme. I am having Pumpkin Centerpieces, Cinderella’s carriage favor boxes, The tables will each be named after a character from the movie. The wedding cake will have small pumpkins in them. And at my welcome table I will have a large wire replica of Cinderella’s carriage.

Not to in your face, but just enough so that you get the point.

Good Luck 🙂

Incorporating train and travel, I like this idea for your escort table:

You could look for an old suitcase off craigs list or a second hand shop, and then use train tickets for your escort cards.  Theh maybe include  pictures or post cards from the trips you’ve had with your FI.

Or use it as a card box:

ashm:  sit down and watch “north by northwest” – you can see that trains and elegance work well together! Look at pictures of old Pullman cars, the posters advertising travel on the Duchess of Hamilton, stuff like that.

Thank you. I love Cinderella. She’s my favorite. I knew right away I’d have a Cinderella themed wedding. I do have my dress. But’s not very Cinderella. The ball gowns don’t work for me. I got my dress at Alfred Angelo it’s very differnt. BUT I LOVE IT!!!!! My shoes will be a nod to Cinderella.

Here is my dress
