- Wedding: May 2012
So, hello! I’m new here, but I’ve been stalking the boards and the site for quite a while, just because I love weddings and love seeing pictures and ideas!
Kind of an introduction: I’m 22, my SO is 26, we’ve been together a little over a year now. We both have talked about how we want to be married before he is moved again- he’s in the Coast Guard, and moves every four years, and his next move is two years away. He wants a bit of a longer engagement to give us time to save up and make sure everything is perfect- we’re both huge on crafts so we’ll probably be diy-ing a lot of things. Anyway, we’ve been talking about marriage for a few months, and a couple of months ago he took me to several jewelers to help him get an idea of my ring size and what type of rings I liked, and then he ‘secretly’ (I was in the UPS store with him, he was in a hurry to get it faxed out) faxed off pictures of my three favorite rings to someone. Ooh!
I’ve been doing my best to keep myself occupied- We’re both big on costumes and are going to a huge convention next month so that’s been a big help, when I’m not working I’m building costumes, and when I’m not doing that I’m browsing through weddingbee, haha. Watching these boards really helps to keep my mind straight and my mouth shut so that I don’t bug him too much (though he isn’t helping, when I get all quiet he knows that I’m thinking about wedding things and so he asks something like “Where would you want to get married” or “What theme would we have?” lol).
ANYWAY the whole point of this post is to get some advice. He’s asked me what type of proposal I’d like, where or if I’d want it around people or what not. He’s talked to my best friend (who has said she wants to be there when he does it) and she knows all the details, though she’s not saying a word about it, and has let me know he’s planning, but I really, really want it to be at this convention we’re going to. It’s where we met, in costume, and I just feel like it would be the most romantic thing if he proposed in the spot we met while we’re in costume, since costuming is such a huge part of our lives! My problem is, though I am pretty certain it will happen during that trip, how do I keep myself from getting my hopes up and being completely disappointed if it doesn’t happen then? I know that I’m going to be surprised and really happy with however he ends up doing it, but I can get really emotional, and I don’t want to get upset just because my dream proposal didn’t happen- he could be planning something even better.
