So my fiance and I are playing with dates right now, just trying to figure out what would work best. We want to do Labour Day weekend 2012, and for multiple reasons we're thinking Friday would be best. First of all, we're having our wedding in a public park (in a bookable spot, but still, we don't want the surroundings to be too loud), and Friday would probably be the least-busy day in the park; and second, for monetary reasons, we want to take our honeymoon the same weekend, but we wouldn't start it until after the wedding (and there's a good chance that my fiance would have to be attending school on the Tuesday or Wednesday).

I guess my question is...is this too much of an inconvenience for our guests? Most of them will be from out of town (like, over 80%), and will most likely have to take Thursday and Friday off. HOWEVER, all our guests are family, and school won't have started yet for the kids, and I know that the Labour Day weekend is often taken as an extended holiday (to squeeze in the last bit of summer).

    What would the hive do?

I think the Friday wedding is completely doable. We're doing Friday with about 30% coming from out of town, and I don't think it'll be toooo big of a deal. Plus, with the holiday weekend, you're just enabling a really nice long weekend!

I mean, your family i would expect to show up. Friends? ehh... that might be more difficult. Just send those STDs early!

we're in the exact same boat.  and choosing a friday (in july though).  every out of towner is familly or may as well be family, and like you said, the kids won't be back in school yet.  so i hope more people vote yes!  hehe.  good luck.

If it was a close family member I would do everything to take the friday off to be there!

If I wasn't so close to them I would go as long as I could easily take the day off work!

@ cinemaparadiso: Almost all of our guest list is family (and all of it is as-good-as; there's two OOT family friends on it, and a couple of my really close friends who are in-town anyways). : ) And I'm hoping to send out the STDs at the one-year mark, or on the Valentine's Day before the wedding (6-7 months in advance).

@ sunshinebride: So far so good! ; )

I would arrange my work schedule for family or close friends for sure. It can be an extra long weekend for all your out-of-towners! :)

I love any excuse to take a day off of work, so I would totally go!

    @ Lillindy: LOL! : D

What about those of you voting that you wouldn't go -- what are your reasons? Not close to your family, or too much of a hassle to take time off & travel?
