I found kittens underneath my apartment. They look like they have an upper respiratory infection. I called the humane society and they said if they have it they would be put down and if they are too young they would be put down. I’m really upset about this. I attempted to go to the nearest vet but they wanted 40.00 for the first and 20.00 for the next 4 Just to check them out not including the medicine. if i could just buy the meds i would but that’s quite a bit of money i really can’t afford to spare. If i release them they are going to make all the cats in the neighborhood sick as URI is really contagious. What should I do? Can I just buy the meds?

@babypearls: …I don’t know about where you are, but there are usually some other rescues than just the Humane Society…some that specialize in cats and things…try looking a little more closely for a niche rescue and see if they’d be willing to take them on.
Some veternarians will take on kittens and other sick animals, get them well and home them with good families, its worth it to ask, because they might also offer a discount if you tell them what the situation is.
If worse comes to worse, if you know any ranches or farms, barn cats are always nice to have, and some of the kinder owners don’t mind taking in some sick kitties if it means they’ll be happy, healthy mousers when they grow up.

@babypearls: I would definitely go somewhere besides the humane society. There should be plenty of cat rescues out there that would be happy to help you out. Here’s a list via Google that I found since I’m not sure where in Texas that you are. 🙂
