My husband and I are planning on TTC within a year or so- I went back to school for nursing and will graduate soon. As soon as I have my license and am practicing, I want to focus on TTC.
In highschool I had terrible acne and gained a lot of weight compared to my peers. I am around 5’7″ and have been about 170-180 pounds since grade 10. This puts me at around size 14. I carry most of my weight in my mid-section which I know is not healthy. I did drop down to abour 145lbs when I trained for and ran a marathon…since then my weight has crept back up. Now, I am pretty active- we hike all the time, sometimes I run, we mountainbike, cross crounty ski (like up 20km a day), and horseback ride between 1-3 times a week. I’m trying to get some activity every day. My diet is not great- I love healthy food and have healthy meals…but I snack back in between. Anyways, that is just a back story.
So my doctor in highschool thought I had PCOS. My cycles back then were pretty regular. I had terrible acne (now clear), and the weight gain, so I think that was his diagnosis. I did go for an ultrasound and did not have cysts, but then it got kind of put on the back burner.
Now that I am moving forward in my life, I am interested in exploring this diagnosis as I want to be as healthy and in control as possible when we start TTC. Last time I got blood work, my LH was lower than my FSH- I know this ISN’T indicative of PCOS…so I just want to figure it all out. I do not have a sense of my normal cycle as I am currently on BCPs. It is light the week I am off the pills- is this indicative of anything?
I plan on making an appointment with my family doctor to begin exploring this. What should I advocate for in the way of diagnostic tests and labs?
-repeat of LH and FSH?
Please help me get informed! thanks!
